How tall are you?

Anonymous
5'3" East Asian, always was one of the shortest in school but not the shortest. Still true today.

5' 10" and I am female and white.

5ft 7in female
Taller side around here, medium in northern Europe.
I believe I'd be few inches taller if the had had anything better than cow's milk to give me since day 1.

Well, guess I 'win' - I'm 4'10" tall, and shrinking as I get older (last doctor's appointment came in at 4'9"). Englsh, Irish, Dutch. Beyond the inconvenience, it doesn't bother me at all. It did when I was a kid since we were always ranked by height for everything (glad that has long since ended). I also found that I was taken less seriously in a professional context, always by men. Now that pissed me off. Otherwise, it wouldn't irritate me at all to be compared to a nine year old - in fact, I was one time on an elementary school field trip with my son - 'Mrs. X, were all bigger than you!' I just thought it was funny. There are so many bigger problems that people have to deal with (many of which I've experienced); height is the least of them. I have to ask strangers for help reaching things atthe grocery (which they always graciously do). I can live with that.

Female

5'8"

I consider myself average.

I am of Western European descent-- British, Irish, and French

Caucasian female of mixed European descent, 5'8. I consider myself tallish, since the average woman is 5'4. I know I'm taller than average, statistically speaking.

I'm tall enough to reach the ground.

I thought milk helps with growing taller. I see a huge difference in height in teen boys between those who drink milk and those who don't. Ones who drink it are almost all well over 6 feet. I am not imagining it, but maybe it is the hormones milk has these days. I work at school.

Not quite 5'3" - I feel normal to myself, though short when I have to stand on the metro and realize that 6" engineers designed the trains.

No, I am a woman. Obviously it bothers me, I do think of myself as short. I wish I didn't but there you go. I am not unhappy about myself, it is just that recently here, my short female friends are commenting how I am tall and as I mentioned, being all weird when I mention that I consider myself short.

Your perception of 5'4" as short is unusual - especially since it's something you feel self-conscious about. I'm 5'3.5" and have never felt "short".

Not OP but I don't think it's unusual. My friends who are her height always refer to themselves as short, not in a bad way just factually. Isn't average height for a woman 5'6"?

OP here, as I mentioned I grew up with many tall female friends, it is when I moved here that people would think it is weird that I think I am on the shorter side as many female friends here are shorter than me. I think height depends from state to state maybe based on ethnic groups that settled there? From country to country as well, of course. In CO many women are taller than me, not by a huge difference but it shows.

They absolutely did. I can't hold those overhead bars without feeling as though my arm is about to rip out of socket! This is why I always search out a pole-always!

Like others here don't really feel short but know I am. One thing that sucks about being short is weight gain is instantly noticeable!

OMG, so true. I gained 15 pounds and it is as if I gained 40!

And there is no way to avoid a ginormous pregnant belly. That "I'm so pregnant" tall chick annoyed me-no, us short ladies are "so pregnant"
