How tall are you?

5'7" female, Ashkenazi Jew. I feel pretty average, height-wise, but most of my family is really short, so I did okay!

I'm a 5-11 female. I consider myself tall (of course).

It was rough as a teenager and it does make dating more challenging. I think when you're a teenager, you just want to look like everyone else. And I didn't.

As an adult with a husband and kids, I hardly think about it. But if I do think about it, I love it. Wouldn't change it if I could at this point in my life. I also happen to be naturally thin. Who doesn't want to walk around being tall and thin? It doesn't suck.

Same poster again. I am just reading some of the posts about having trouble finding clothes. I am very proportional and I think I'm a good height for all the tall sizing that's out there. The proliferation of tall size clothing is relatively recent. As a teenager it was more difficult. But as an adult, I have no trouble at all finding clothes. A 34 or 35 inch inseam is perfect for me and it's easy to find.

5'3" female, South Asian. I remember feeling on the short side sometimes when growing up (e.g., always in the front row for class pictures) but don't really think about it now. As a PP mentioned, I think the "average" height for women in the US is about 5'4". I do appreciate being small in some situations (sitting in economy seats on the plane, etc.).
I have had taller women express to me how they are sometimes annoyed when they see shorter women with taller men (DH is 6'2", college boyfriend was around the same). Not sure if that is a prevalent feeling.

I feel average but everyone else tells me that I'm actually considered short. I don't really care either way.

I don't give a flying eff if someone calls me short or petite. Petite is basically a clothing designation. And now I have discovered some brands are making "petite shorts" - because petite didn't quite cover it, huh?

I dated a couple taller guys. Wound up with someone who is 5'7" My aunt actually told me to my face I shouldn't marry him because our kids would be short. SMDH.

We have girls, so it's not like it's going to be a big problem if they are small.

4'11" and 1/2. I'm tiny and it doesn't bother me except when I need to spend extra cash on tailoring because even petite pants and skirts are too long.

Irish and Italian ancestry

I have to get most of my pants tailored.
I've had people (including complete strangers) ask me if I'm a little person.
People constantly refer to me as "cute" and "tiny," which I hate. I'm 26, not 6!
Also, I am a high school teacher, so most of my students are significantly taller than me and they always ask questions about my height.

5'0.5" - that half inch counts! I'm of Western European descent. I don't mind being petite. I do have to get certain outfits tailored.

DH is 6'4" and mainly German. I think we complement each other nicely.

Anonymous wrote:I'm 5'10", female with Croatian roots. I consider myself rather tall for a woman and feel kinda awkward standing next to shorter people. I feel like I stick out I guess and sometimes wish I would just shrink a bit to fit in. It's also tough to find a nice pair of pants that go down far enough and consequently, sleeves that reach my wrists. My DH is 6'1" and biracial. (Caucasian/Filipino) He frequently laments being tall, especially when riding on a train, plane, or anywhere that he has to scrunch up his legs. Our 2.5 year old son is 40 inches tall. We are a house of giants I guess!

Have you traveled to Croatia? I've heard that Croatians(spelling?) are among the tallest people in the world, if not the tallest? Is that your experience and if so, what makes them/you saw tall? I believe that tall Joe Manganiello said somewhere he also has Croatian roots.
