How tall are you?

Anonymous
5'3" WF, so I'm short; DH = 5'11" WM and always dated men taller than me because virtually all of them are. Eldest son same height as dad.
Bottomline? Don't worry, OP; just wear heels -- or flip flops -- but walk with your head held high.

I'm 5'10" and I consider myself tall. Have been this height since 5th grade and it was DEFINITELY tall in late elementary/middle school. Hated it growing up because I was taller than all the cute boys and felt awkward about it. I like it now because I know people (unfairly) take me more seriously because of my height. I never liked dating people shorter than I am and DH is about 3 inches taller. I don't feel comfortable wearing very high heels because I feel enormous when I do. Highest I ever go is 2.5".

I'm 5'8" and have never really been that psyched to be so tall. (for a female.) Buying clothes is a pain in the ass because my inseam is too long for regular pants and too short for "tall" pants. My arms are always too long for shirt sleeves but "tall" shirts are often too long. My skirts are either too short or the "tall" skirts fall at a frumpy length.

At my last doctor's appointment I had already started shrinking - I measured 5'7 and 3/4. Maybe I'll eventually get to 5'6" which seems like the perfect height.

Your height sounds average to me, OP.

5'2" white female. Not into it.

WF 5'10" - I've always considered myself tall, always taller than most of my friends (and a lot of men lol).

I hate that most long sleeves are too short and pants that are not specifically "tall" in size are too short. Not to mention dress lengths. I also have rather large breasts which seem to hike the dresses up even more. Buying clothes is definitely a pita, although better than when I was in HS.

5ft 7in female

I'm tall for my ethnic group.

I love shopping because almost everything fits and I rarely have to alter my pants.

My mom, on the other hand is 5ft 2in and needs to hem everything.

I think I'm about average. Maybe a little short

You must wear heels at all times. I have several friends who are about 5'2" and NONE of them would say they are average, they would all instantly say they are short.

I believe the polite term for it, is "petite"

I'm a 5' 7.5" male, which I'm given to understand is on the short side of average for American men.

That implies that there's something wrong with being short, which there isn't.

5'3, very thin with long legs so no one thinks I am that short. People assume I am 5'5/5'6.

I consider myself slightly short but NBD.

Western European ancestry.

My mom is only 5'0 so I did alright.

I'm 5'5 but if I slouch I'm 5'3. I consider myself average because there are plenty of people taller and shorter than I am. I grew up in a family where the females were 5'8 or taller except for one so in my own family I feel short. My husband's family is short so I feel tall compared to them. It's all relative.

I think I'm the shortest to post thus far ... 4'11"

I do consider that short (duh?). It doesn't bother me in terms of self esteem etc. It does bother me in terms of shopping and being able to find things that fit without alterations. I don't own a single pair of work pants that didn't have to be altered (even ones that are labeled short or petite, are usually too long by at least a few inches). Same with suit jackets and anything that has sleeves that's meant to look fitted.

OP here, it does seem that tall or short or even average height, we are all cursed with having a hard time finding the clothes that fit right. I am glad you are fine with your height, wish I would stop thinking how my kids might stay short because of me. DH is not that tall, 5'11" and a half, he always adds that and a half....He has some German ancestry but is way shorter than his maternal grandpa.
