I mean this kindly. I really feel sorry for the "grammar police". It is like they are compelled by an OCD tick. They cannot help themselves from correcting and when asked to stop they become distressed by it.

They don't seem to understand that while casually conversing on an anonymous internet forum sometimes you type faster than you consciously think. They don't understand that not everyone has english as a first language. They lack empathy for those who may not have been privy to a stellar education. They lack the understanding that some people just don't give hoot about it.

Poor ole grammar police - let's cut them some slack. They can't help themselves. It is just their way.

It's "tic." Just saying.

PP You are kind to correct only the previous poster. With the previous poster's rambling writing, I feel like a grammar police who has been told to stand down and not interrupt while crimes are being committed.

And you don't think any of that was on purpose?

No, I thought it more with purpose.

That would be a waste of paper to print it and use a red pen. You can't control other people from being the Grammar Police if they are so compelled.

But you can report them for derailing a thread and not adding to a topic.

Then I guess all English teachers are in this "asshole category."

Count me in as one, angry asshole!

I'd like to see an example of a thread where more than three posts interrupted your pleasant scroll from page to page to an extent that was truly horrible.

Here's a tip - you don't need to read every post. At the first word that indicates the post is about grammar rather than the topic at hand, skip to the next one.

Here is a tip for you: If you see a grammar mistake - take a deep breath, calm the twitch in your eye and move on.

+1 English minor here, and I completely agree. In my humble opinion, correcting the grammar of others is not helpful at all; and it likely would limit this site's "conversations," if people felt intimidated.

CNN and WaPo are a commercial form of written communication. They need to do it correctly. A bank teller who can't count shouldn't be given a pass for the same reason.

This is becoming absurd.
