Grammar Police - A plea

I'd like to see an example of a thread where more than three posts interrupted your pleasant scroll from page to page to an extent that was truly horrible.

Here's a tip - you don't need to read every post. At the first word that indicates the post is about grammar rather than the topic at hand, skip to the next one.

And why do you need to post about grammar? Seriously what is the point? What does it add?

If you find believe it is helpful you are mistaken. You are not a professor grading our papers. Please get over yourself.

Here is a tip for you: If you see a grammar mistake - take a deep breath, calm the twitch in your eye and move on.

I don't post about grammar, ever. What are you talking about? I asked the OP to clarify why this is is such a huge problem. How many grammar posts does OP have to scroll through that it's so irritating? This is what I asked. Where does it say in my post that I correct other people's grammar? Please work on your reading comprehension.

+1 English minor here, and I completely agree. In my humble opinion, correcting the grammar of others is not helpful at all; and it likely would limit this site's "conversations," if people felt intimidated.

I think I will start doing so because I find it obnoxious.

Yes, flood Jeff with reports of people correcting grammar. This can only NOT be even more obnoxious than the people correcting the grammar....

Actually he encourages reporting posts that derail or add nothing to the topic. Especially when a topic is new because it sets a tone.

Grammar nazis are not doing it out of the goodness of their hearts they are doing it to point and laugh and get a little jolly from it.

He encourages people to report grammar police (nazi offends me)?

I've never seen website feedback complaints about spelling police derailing threads but obviously if it's being reported I'm not privy to that. If a random grammar correction thrown into a thread details you then you have bigger issues to deal with than you think....

Why are you assuming that my eyes twitch when I see a grammatical mistake? I've never corrected someone's grammar on DCUM. I simply asked the OP for examples of having to wade through so many grammar posts that it's become a huge problem to post about.

I cringe when I notice a mistake in an otherwise interesting post because now I'll have to wade through all the posts about the grammar that don't address the actual subject. Those are boring posts, y'all. Let. It. Go. The people who care already noticed the mistake and the ones that don't care, don't need to see the correction. If you must, print it out and use your red pen.

Consider it contribution to society... teaching people how to spell use use the grammars.

How many languages do you speak? English is my third, so if make a grammatical mistake, I'm happy to type with you in one of the other two languages.

Calm down. I'm sure you understood the post just fine. As I did yours.

Then that tip wasn't for you. There are people on here that go out of their way to correct every single teeny tiny mistake. If this doesn't concern you then why is it concerning you so much? "Simply" demanding examples and defending yourself and all?

This is an English forum... Your point is moot.

I frequently delete grammar-correcting posts that are reported to me. They do tend to detract from the discussion.

English is not everyone's first or even second language.

I send an email to news organizations when I see a typo or misspelled word. CNN doesn't care. They never correct or respond. The folks at the WaPo respond with an email thanking me for catching it, and then correct it quickly. No snark needed.

I apologize - I truly thought people corrected in jest and not to derail.
