The gas mileage on my BMW is the best I've ever had on any car, I get around 35/36, which is even better than advertised. That's something else to consider, if you want to cut down on gas consumption. Unless you're having more kids, an SUV or minivan is completely unnecessary. I only had two we did fine in sedans and one Honda crossover SUV. |
Not sure if racist but .... I will be honest, I wouldn't drive a luxury sedan if I had the added, ongoing cost of salon hair maintenance. As an AA woman, that is one expense that I'm happy that I've been able to give up! |

Love my Bimmer. It's a '98 540 I bought for $6500 a few years ago. Rides great, handles great, drives great. Not quite as good as my old 300ZX, but it's enough that I'll definitely have BMW near the top of by brands list in the future.
Now, I only get ~17/21 city/highway... that is kind of a bummer. But I deal with it because of how great everything else about it is. Except maintenance costs. I do 95% of my own MX and it still hurts sometimes. I have tires, shocks, springs, and a wheel speed sensor to do in the next month or two... that's gonna be ~$1500 in parts right there. :p |
You sound like a sweet person. I wish I had people in my life like that. |
If you were really concerned about the environment you could have gone without a car. Frankly, having a kid did huge damage to the environment that you will never be able to make up. |
You're racist. I see plenty of minorities driving BMWs, including our neighbors. Nevermind the ethic groups that tend to have nicer cars (I'm a member of one). Maybe you need to get out more. |

I think you're oversimplifying.
* Some people want one for image * Some people want one for performance * Some people want one for looks * Some people want one because Jeremy Clarkson praised it * Some people just always wanted one growing up for no particular reason... * More people bought one than can really afford to keep it up (There's a guy at my work that trades in his year-old Vette for a new one... every year. Just so he always has the newest model. It's pretty cool but seems like an asinine way to spend money.) People who have a performance car are more likely to use that performance occasionally compared with someone driving a Prius. Sometimes someone using Power will pass in a less considerate manner than might be advised. Those with less Power are less likely to pass aggressively. I dunno. Am I reading too much into this? |
The bitter poster is back.

| I have a Jetta. I have actually been in a nice car once or twice and, they are really nice, comfortable and quiet. They have better sound systems, can be safer, etc. There are solid reasons to own a nice car car. Just because you are thinking it to yourself, doesn't actually mean that they are looking over at you and thinking you are a loser. That's in your head, not theirs. |
Sweet, but naive and ignorant, stereotypical of the activist mentality. I like sweet people, but stay away from the naive and ignorant as they are boring, shallow, and loud. Both BMW and Mercedes makes vinyl as the default seating surface material for their lower rung cars. You have to pay extra for leather. |
Prius has a disproportionate percentage of asshole drivers, probably even more than BMW/MB. They all want to race me, pass me, wizzing by in silence, trying to prove a point. While driving on the pacific coastal highway, I was passed on a blind curve with double yellow lines by a Prius. |
+ 1 Everyone has their indulgences and it was so rude and unfair to say "spoken like a white person". What does that even mean??? I am Asian, btw. |
I couldn't read thru the last 8 pages of responses, but let me summarize: 1) you DON'T earn enough to get yourself a nice ride, but keep lying to yourself. 2) in % terms, what do you think your car depreciated, rolling out the door, vs a BMW or Benz? So, we now know you don't make enough to afford a nice car, AND, you lack the basics of break-even analysis. 3) No one else has your insecurities, thus, no one else has this same revulsion you do. |
What a miserable person you are. Is it possible for you to provide someone with information without criticizing them? |
LOL, so it's okay for someone to prop themselves up to be morally/ethically superior by being a vegetarian, concerned for the environment, and their non-use of animal skin as a seating surface, but it's not okay for me to smack them down with their own ignorance? Ok.... The kindest thing you can do to a pompous fool who has spoken foolishly is to point out their mistake, so that they may be incentivized to have some humility and take some time to learn about the subject of their claimed passion and actually speak with some intelligence the next time they choose to openly discuss them in public. |
