School not allowing access to water in hot weather

Wait, what? I thought that was the reason for closing Clifton ES-no potable water. Your fountains are unusable?

I'm a teacher in FCPS and find it hard to believe that this is true. But if it is I am as infuriated by this parent's passivity than I am at the teacher. If you saw a childneeding medical intervention and the teacher wasn't callin for help then you should have, and then promptly reported the teacher to the principal, assistant superintendent for the region, and Dr. Garza.

What are you afraid of? What kind of "retribution" do you fear that could be worth risking a child's health or life?!

Exactly! What a poor excuse for an adult.

I posted before about our school not having usable fountains. Our school is one of many schools with lead pipes. It's an inner city school. There are plenty of issues with old schools and a district without money to improve/update the facilities. Teachers and parents have complained about cup issue and it has improved but when it gets hot quickly like it did last week, the kids go through cups like crazy. I provide plastic water bottles to my students 2-3 times per year and they are instructed to keep them in the top of their locker. I am tired of spending my own money for everything including this. One of the many reasons I dream about teaching in a school where basic needs are not something I need to be responsible for. It is never ending.

BS. If you had lead pipes, you couldn't drink any of the water.

We can't drink any of the water. That's why we have water coolers. I believe I mentioned that in a previous post. There are also signs in multiple languages over every sink explaining that the water is non-potable.

Wow, that sounds awful. And that is in NoVa somewhere? Doesn't sound like Fairfax County - I've never had to buy basic supplies while working there. What district is it? Maybe Alexandria?

She said it's an "inner city school" so I'm guessing it's not Fairfax County or NoVA (unless City of Alexandria qualifies for being "inner city")

You're posting in the VA Public Schools forum. What Virginia public school do you teach in where there is no potable water?

^^She didn't say she posted in the VA schools forum about this issue. She likely posted and in a different forum.

It isn't in VA but in the mid-Atlantic area. This is not unusual for old building in inner cities. Not enough money to renovate and replace much of anything.

If you truly believe that there is a problem, and the teacher and principal are unresponsive, then go up the chain. Email the principal's boss (assistant superintendent? superintendent?) Keep going up the chain until you get a response.
