Our school doesn't have usable water fountains. We do run out of cups for the water coolers sometimes so if students don't save their cups like they are told or if they don't bring in water bottles from home, they can't get water. Parents constantly complain that their child wasn't allowed to get water but yet they won't send in a cup or water bottle. Their child also doesn't follow directions to save their cup in the top of their locker. You just can't win sometimes.
Wait, what? I thought that was the reason for closing Clifton ES-no potable water. Your fountains are unusable?
I posted before about our school not having usable fountains. Our school is one of many schools with lead pipes. It's an inner city school. There are plenty of issues with old schools and a district without money to improve/update the facilities. Teachers and parents have complained about cup issue and it has improved but when it gets hot quickly like it did last week, the kids go through cups like crazy. I provide plastic water bottles to my students 2-3 times per year and they are instructed to keep them in the top of their locker. I am tired of spending my own money for everything including this. One of the many reasons I dream about teaching in a school where basic needs are not something I need to be responsible for. It is never ending.
You're posting in the VA Public Schools forum. What Virginia public school do you teach in where there is no potable water?
