| Last week the a/c wasn't working and one of the teachers wouldn't let the students leave to get a drink. She also wouldn't open the windows. One girl fainted. The teacher actually sat her back up in her seat and told everyone to keep working. Didn't call an ambulance, either. Just sent the kid to the nurse, where she was picked up by the parent. The following day a group of kids went on a field trip to an outdoor location and walked around for 2 hours in the sun with no water, followed by an hour bus ride home (again, no water). One kid had to be picked up by a parent because he got so sick. They weren't allowed to bring food, either. What is wrong with teachers? This was in Fairfax County. Aren't there some rules that they have to look out for our kids' well-being? I hate leaving my child there every day, but complaining to the principal doesn't make any difference. She only defends teachers, no matter what they do. |
| That's ridiculous! pls - what school is this? |
| Which school? |
|
My boys have always been encouraged to bring in water bottles- at all 4 schools they have attended in FCPS. What school is this?
I think it was prudent to take the student to the nurse and not call an ambulance in the situation you describe. |
| Odd for a school district that cancels school for an inch of snow or 20 degree weather ... |
| OP here - I don't want to say what school. Not surprisingly, it already has terrible reviews on Greatschools. Does anyone know where I could write (anonymously - the principal is all about retribution) to complain? |
| Is your kid telling you this? This is truly not a believable story, particularly the teacher just sitting a passed out girl back up in her desk like it's Weekend at Bernies. I think your kid is telling some whoppers. |
| No, my kid didn't tell me. I saw both of these events with my very own eyes. |
If you post the name here, it won't happen again.
|
What was your role in the classroom? If you felt an ambulance was needed, why didn't you call 911? |
|
So post the name of the school. These are pretty serious safety violations.
Or maybe you are the one telling whoppers. |
This is one school- it is definitely not a district policy. |
|
1. I would report this to the superintendent in writing.
2. I would provide the school (the principal and teacher) with a note from my child's pediatrician saying they are to have access to water and bathrooms AS THE CHILD DEEMS NECESSARY. |
Exactly! |
| Well, I suggested calling 911, but there were other parents in the room as well and no one seemed to want to do anything. The teacher was angry and was shouting at everyone to turn around and keep doing what they were doing. I felt kind of intimidated. The kid ended up being OK, although the parent did take her to the hospital. |
