No, ALL schools have 5 extra minutes added. Fuck this. I'm moving. I've had enough of fcps.

Lets start a petition to make them stop wasting all of this money and giving themselves raises in the midst of it all. It just floors me how many are opposed but we all sit back and watch it happen. We voted these fools in - now we need to vote them out! THIS NOVEMBER!! Thinking of a job change, have school aged kids and thinking of working part-time, have experience balancing a billion $ budget - I know a great part-time job for you for $37,500 per year or if you would like to think a little bigger you could work part- time on the board of supervisors for a whopping $95,000 a year. RUN, RUN, RUN - I will vote for you.

Why is nobody outraged by this? ???

I guess the students won't argue about less school time. And I suppose teachers aren't going to argue to give them more work for themselves. That means only the parents to be the advocating voice?

I'm outraged, yes. I also think teachers are no happier about this sort of meddling than anyone else. They have lives, too. Imagine if your job start time was subject to change every year.

They are, I am! The school board is not listening.

Not all will. Ours will now start 25 minutes later. Eight schools were impacted greater than 5-10 minutes, which might not matter much to you, but it matters very much to the parents whose children attend these schools.

In the case of our school, I can recall no fewer than three changed start times since we have been going there. There's a difference of almost an hour between two of those starts.

Should have spoke up before now!

As a matter of fact, I have. It falls on deaf ears. That's why we started paying for morning SACC.

Actually if they get all of the changes they want the school year will be longer! They want to start a full week earlier and still end in the middle of freaking JUNE! Enough is enough. I am with the lady who is ready to move back to states who send their kids to school Labor Day to Memorial Day - my kids are growing up to fast and they deserve a kids life not a freaking adult working life schedule. What the heck is wrong with you people - and yes I said you people!!

I have posted about this numerous times with very little response.

Me too for months!! We are sitting idly by and letting it happen. Our voices need to be LOUDER FOLKS!

Yes we do and why are we sitting back and watching this happen???

FCPS is one of the reasons that I'm a SAHM - the start/end times that don't work well for working families, the numerous snow days and delays, the random early dismissals and teacher work days.

I honestly don't see how families with 2 parents working full-time do it. How do you juggle everything?

In the past, I've worked while kids are in school, but as the default (non-bread winning) parent, I was the one who had to call in late to the office, take time off, etc. Most employers just aren't that flexible and I didn't make enough money for paid childcare to make sense. After taxes, I wasn't clearing much.

Same here I guess those short Mondays were great for working parents but late stars aren't.

Which states have a school year from Labor Day to Memorial Day?

Why would you want your child to go to school at 9:20 anyway? The morning is half over.

My child will now start school at 9:15. Such BS.

And what improvements have we seen as the result of all of these changes? Anyone? I'm seeing NO IMPROVEMENT in my child's education. He comes home more tired than ever, looking forward to weekends and days off. Dreads coming home to an hour of homework every night before he can do what he wants to do. 7 hours in school, an hour of homework and around 30 minutes getting to and from school. Now we have longer school days and they want to make the school year longer too? For what? What benefit are we seeing? None here!

Why does it take a half hour for your son to get to school?

This! I think it's sneak and utter BS. Why are they stretching out the school year like this? Part of the reason is moaning parents whose kids do not know how to amuse or conduct themselves when they aren't institutionalized or in a program.

Please be sure to use my increased property tax. It went up a huge 12% and I'm still not sure why there is never any money in the county for anything.
Wondering if a 3rd party audit is needed.
