| Wakefield Forest got an email -- 8:30 to 3:15. I think this year was 8:10 to 3. |
| Just an fyi most principals, especially the ones who view this site, discourage copying their letters. I don't think yours was harming anything but it's just a slippery slope if people continue to do that for other issues. Most schools got their own"letters" today or will be getting them. |

Not sure why you are complaining about posting an email from a Principal that was sent out en-mass.. does the school system expect some level of privacy of this communication?
I for one found the post to be helpful - it let me compare the one that I received from a different school and come to the conclusion that even though these letters are coming from the Principal's they really do not reflect any thoughts from the Principal but rather are just mass communications from the Superintendent... |
You have got to be kidding me. A principal has no expectation of privacy in an email sent to the entire school. |
| Our email from the principal says the county approved measures to allow MS & HS to start later than 8am. I thought it was just HS that's starting later and that MS will still start before 8am? Did I miss something? |
Exactly. The letter to Wakefield Forest was identical to the CW letter, except for the start time. (I'm not 9:12) It's a little curious though. The current bell times as posted on the WFES website are: Mon - Fri: 8:10am - 3:00pm NOTE: Students may arrive no earlier than 8:00am. But I KNOW that the actual start time for being in the classroom is 8:20. Morning kiss and ride is still in full swing at 8:10. From the letter it says: Beginning in September, we will begin at 8:30 a.m. and dismiss at 3:15 p.m. Student drop-off will begin at 8:20 am each day. So I would take from this that the "real" start time is 8:35 or 8:40 |

Some people posted on other threads awhile ago that this was some kind of "numbers game" or "trick" that was implemented this year to get the appropriate number of hours built into the school year. This year they switched from number of days to hours in the school year. I have no idea how it works though. |
I found it very helpful! My cold will be starting kindergarten in the fall and this information is very helpful in making a big work decision for me in the coming weeks. Thank you! |

We are in Arlington, and our school doesn't start officially until 9, but they publish the start time as 8:50. |
| But this is a change this year for FCPS and coincided with the removal of half day Mondays and the switch to hours versus days counting. It is most certainly a trick because they count it as instructional time when no instruction is being given. |

Agreed. |

Ridiculous to start kiss and ride and unlock the doors for walkers only 10 minutes before "instruction" time is supposed to begin. What a charade. |
| Our school bell schedule is 9:05-3:55 but they don't unlock the doors until 9:00 am and kiss and ride runs until 9:10. ??? |
