B/c of dropping off other kids at daycare and school, we will miss the bus. Does anyone know how the kiss and ride works if the bell time is 8:35 and I won't be able to make it till realistically 8:30ish? Will my poor K be late for school everyday or will DC be able to rush in from Kiss and Ride and make it to class? I would hate for DC to be penalized on just making it. Will DC have enough time to take off his jacket and put away his backpack or do they expect them to be in seats by the bell?

Very stressed out rising K parent here!

Earlier should be LATER
you have one of the earliest start times compared to other ES's look at the actual start time of your school with the links that FCPS provided today. Also just call the school for specifics especially for when the open doors and kiss and ride lanes start since every school is different. Most likely since your bell time is 8:35 your actually start time may 10 min after that. So 8:45. Being late to school everyday won't be allowed. There are a lot of people in your same situation and it may just take a few weeks to get the drop off working. Talk with neighbors as well you can try to organize car pooling. Or maybe it will be fine when bus schedules come out.

Oh, sister, your life may be planned to the minute, but I hate to tell you that it's about to get turned upside down now that you are entering public school. Get ready for upheaval.

+100 So true.

No, ALL schools have 5 extra minutes added. Fuck this. I'm moving. I've had enough of fcps.

Bye?

You do not deserve a raise, the board does not deserve a raise and the Board of Supervisors should not have gotten a raise. You all are greedy and don't give a damn about what is best for the majority. Many have spoke out against all of this and YOU ARE NOT LISTENING. You are plowing ahead with what you want. You are not alone! On all of what you said. I am outraged too and what garza GONE!!!!

Me, too. I'm writing to each school board member as well as Garza about this charade.

Most Elementaries have a 5-10 min change in start times and in addition all have added 5 min to their day either in morning or afternoon. As stated by Tuesday's mass email by FCPS all bell schedules will be posted on the site today.

Why in the world would it matter?

No high schoolers did! Poor kids that like sports and other extracurricular. You will all be thrilled when you need a teachers conference or you child needs extra help. Ooooh can't wait to see those posts. You get what you asked for!!!

It seems to me that middle schoolers are the exact kids who need LESS time in the afternoon and not more! They are too old for SACC but not old enough to have school sports after school. What options do they have from 2:15 on?

Meanwhile, my elementary kid will get out at 4:00.

The inames are officially running the prison. I miss what Fairfax County used to be.

I have been saying this for months and we did not yell loud enough. I honestly have talked to many about these changes and I seriously have only talked to two parents who support these changes. This board is not listening. They need to go. We must vote them out.

It is very late. Feel sorry for your kids and you. This is BS!

Why would you want your child to go to school at 9:20 anyway? The morning is half over.

But people will need morning childcare...?

It's generally easier to get morning SACC. Or for parents to stagger schedules. But it's hard when both parents work for one to be home before 3, which is what you would need if the ES start times were are early as the old HS start times.

Not anymore at our school! Our start time is now 25 minutes later--nearly one hour later than when my oldest started K. Thank God we're in a.m. SACC already.

I would assume with all the changes that SACC will be next. You really think they are going to pay (subsidize) extra child care.

We have 9:20 too. Sucks! The morning SACC list is a mile long and there is no way we can stagger our jobs that much. My kid will also be awake a good 3 hours before school starts. Little kids get up early.

Should have spoke up before now.

Not all will. Ours will now start 25 minutes later. Eight schools were impacted greater than 5-10 minutes, which might not matter much to you, but it matters very much to the parents whose children attend these schools.

In the case of our school, I can recall no fewer than three changed start times since we have been going there. There's a difference of almost an hour between two of those starts.

Should have spoke up before now!

Good luck with that. I mean it sincerely. I've written before and got NOTHING. Not even an acknowledgment that my "note" was received. The arrogance is astounding.
