The two stolen passport tickets were contiguous, so purchased together. Both passports were stolen in Thailand. Both passengers were flying on from Beijing to Amsterdam, then the Italian to Copenhagen and the Austrian to Frankfurt. The chances that this had nothing to do with the disappearance of this plane are slim to none. If in the end they did not, it is some coincidence.
It is stunning that the airline did not run the passports -- all passports -- through the Interpol database. |
Maybe as PPs suggested the passports are linked to human/sex trafficking of Malaysian women to Europe. So there is an underground business for stolen passports run by a Thai gang or person and they sold it to the trafficker of the women? |
I'm reading this waiting for my flight to board back to DC. I hear ya! |
Well that's dumb. |
13:02 I know, and yes, that scenario is possible. There could also be an underground market of stolen passports for terrorists. |
Anyone else watch locked up abroad or even Bridget Jones diary? It's more likely that its drug trafficking. |
Planes usually don't disappear with drug or sex trafficking. Ergo the speculation of foul play. |
ugh Vietnamese searchers think they've spotted part of a tail and an interior door in the water. But it's dark now so don't think they can find more.

You did logic wrong. Planes don't disappear at all most times. However there is a lot of drug trafficking etc. so it's more likely that those passports were of people who stole it for that purpose then it was for people who wanted to make a plane disappear. |
True on the logic. Thanks. However, I cannot agree that it is more likely that the passports were for drug trafficking simply because there are more drug traffickers than terrorists flying the skies. Look, aviation security types think this is a possible scenario (foul play). I don't know if anyone's giving odds. |
DISINTEGRATED!? Have mercy. |
also the fact that the plane turned without notification and had changed course indicates terrorism (remember just last month the terrorists who tried to take the Turkish plane to Socchi? They told the pilots to turn around and head towards Socchi. Pilots said they were doing that (they weren't)). Also Interpol has now found additional passport problems. And the two Thai passports were not issued consecutively. |
I guess I haven't read enough scifi...how would a plane disintegrate midair w/o crashing into anything? Even when it hits the ground and there's not much left, there's still SOMETHING left. Planes don't just disintegrate w/o a trace do they? |
They mean a bomb. And that might mean no black box, which is actually bright yellow/orange, as happened in 9/ll. That would also explain the veering off course without notification (all channels were open) and the necessity for the fake passports (to get suicide bombers or gear on board). Interpol is finding more problematic issues with more passports. The Thai ones weren't issues sequentially. |
Not necessarily completely disintegrated with no trace. Just that it exploded in the air and whatever is left is small fragments. Just as with the Space Shuttle, there were small pieces strewn on the ground but most of burned up or were too tiny to be recognized. |
