Me too. I'd rather have a partner than stuff. |
| No, but I dated a few men that I knew could not afford my lifestyle. |
No, but he did, op! I let nosy people think it's his money- serves them right!

It's your lifestyle. You pay for it. |
I am from one of these cultures, and I have noticed that 1. the reason those marriages last is because divorce is taboo, and there are plenty of people trapped in miserable marriages their whole lives, and 2. people become consumed by the "business" side of the marriage, or the bride just becomes obsessed with all of the stuff she's going to "get" from the marriage, such as an apartment, furniture, her engagement ring, without really thinking very hard about this person she's getting to marry. It encourages a huge bridezilla mentality. Similarly men have a lot of pressure not to get married until they have saved an enormous amount of money, and this can be pretty miserable and stressful as well. So no one culture is superior or "knows" the secret of marriage. |

My sister-law-law married for money. She never had a full time job that paid more than $50k/year and she decided to move to NYC years ago. She dated tons of guys and one guy, who I really like, ended up being a surgeon. Well, after eight years of knowing each other she stuck with him and they got married.
My wife even told me her sister told her that she married him because she knew he could give her the life she wanted...meaning a life with tons of money. Because all she does is shop shop shop. When she visited here for Thanksgiving went went to Tysons II and she bought (I kid you not) a $900 scarf from Louis Vuitton. I was like...wtf. She also has hand bags that range from $2000 to $10,000. What a life. |
I feel sad for you. |
| My cousin who is beautiful married for money. He was handsome and an heir but dumb as a box of rocks. He also drank. After two kids, they got divorced. She got to keep the beautiful hge Victorian house in a seaside town and gets lots of alimony. The kids look like models. She now has an athletic nice boyfriend. I think she would do it all again. |
Just think if she married a poor guy she would be on welfare and her children will suffer. Marrying money secured her and her children after the divorce. Since most marriages end in divorce anyway. You might as well get something for it. Money isn't everything, but having money takes care of problems. |
| Whats the difference between marrying for money and fucking for money? |
Don't feel sad, PP; that post was a total fiction, probably written by a guy. Here's how to tell: 1) all women care if DH "Screws" another woman, in any capacity; 2) I don't know any women who use the word "screw" in this century; 3) why would she need to "keep a clean and pretty home" if DH were rich -- wouldn't a servant do that? 4) the "buy all things I want" and "girlfriends envy me" are typical mysogynistic cliches. There are other ways to break down the post to prove that it's a guy's fantasy of "What women want" (this guy doesn't have a clue, BTW), but the point is that the post is as big a fiction as anything you'll find on DCUM, on this thread or any other. |
None, except the wedding ring, big party and divorce settlement. Trophy wives are like cylons: they get traded in for a new model every decade. |
| I think my DW has been telling our daughter to marry for money, since I didn't turn out to be as a high an earner as my wife expected. |

No. And I passed up the opportunity twice with no regrets. There are many, many things that money cannot compensate for. I married a good guy who did eventually end up doing well financially. We used to live in a shoebox sized apartment- I think because we were together when there was no money, we mutually enjoy and share the good life now.

| Does marrying for health insurance count at marrying for money? We got married sooner than we'd planned so I could get health insurance as I have several health problems. |
