Opinions on WAMU reporters?

Omg, me too, exactly, down to "DAKARRRR."

Just wow. Diane Rehm has grown on me. Kojo rocks when he is into a subject and I wish he could fake it as well as Diane when he is not.

Take or leave the folks handling the local news - impressed that the station can have so many staff!

I am very disappointed that Michel Martin and "Tell Me More" are leaving the 2-3 slot and going off the air. I really loved that show, even though I was only able to listen to it on M/F.

My grip is with the recent tagline they started using a few years ago. "Where the mind is our medium". As if NPR wasn't pretentious enough.

ME TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

What accent is that??? Southern???

No! I'm southern and know nobody who does that with their voice. I wonder if it's intentional.

I love all of them! Boo to you haters!

Someone kick Matt Laslo in the ass and get him to enunciate when he speaks. Irritates the living shit out of me.

I'm toasting right now to Michel Martin's show being taken off the air. 2-3 is normally the minor leagues of talk/news radio anyway. Maybe I'll actually tune in now.

Seems like the absolutely insufferable on twitter Martin Austermuehrle is starting to get bylines, even if they're co-bylines with the always excellent Martin DeCaro. This is a disturbing trend, I hate seeing over educated, underqualified dolts like Martin A. get plum local news jobs. I guess I should have went for a Masters in Latin American Studies (studies), I could have worked for AMU.

Both Matt McCleskey, the main morning anchor, and Elliott Francis, who sometimes subs for him, have trouble reading their scripts, like they're fed on a prompter but the lines aren't coming through fast enough.

Meymo Lyons sounds like she's drinking whiskey and smoking cigars.

Michael Pope ends every segment with "I'M Michael Pope." I always picture him popping a blood vessel in his eye when he says it.

Martin Di Caro has a very soap-opera-esque quality and over-enunciates his tag line: "I'm Mar-Tin Di-Car-O."

Markette Smith over-enunciates to a tortuous degree. She also sounds spitty.

And Armando Trull sounds like he's doing his best impression of a reporter.

I do like Kavitha Cardoza though! Her voice is very soothing and lyrical.

I would think in a metro area this large, they'd be able to find reporters with fewer distracting tics.

I can't stand listening to Kavitha. She whistles or squeaks her s's in a fingernails on a chalkboard way.

Completely agree with this about Cavitha. I can't stand her voice and the what she says words with s sounds. It's horrible. She should not be on the radio.

Yes it's intentional. She tries to sound French.

Love Diane Rehm. She is all class.

I actually change the radio station when Armandro Trull comes on because he always sounds like he is doing a comedy skit making fun of over-enunciaters.

I just wish WAMU were a REAL college station - you know, playing local punk bands, announcements about upcoming on-campus events, etc.

Far and away, the most annoying person to me is Michael Pope. Why o why does he have to have that obnoxious sign off? Is it something he can't help? I turn off the radio whenever he comes on.

What bugs me about the two Matts on WAMU is that they've called themselves "hosts." "I'm your host Matt McClesky." Host of what? You are a middle man, interrupting the national news to give news about traffic in Northern Virginia. Big whoop. You are not a host.

Otherwise, on the weekends I can't listen to Jackie Lyden because she cannot pronounce her Rs. It's called speech therapy, please. Not fond of the Dakar thing either, but I can deal. I like Eleanor Beardsley a lot, think she's pretty cool. She's a southerner from SC and speaks fluent French. Brava. Agree on the minor complaints about Martin DeCaro.

I think pubic radio reporters and announcers, in general, sound snooty and that turns me off. A la "Pardon me, would you have any Grey Poupon?"

I feel the opposite. I'm astounded daily by their grammar mistakes because I hold public radio reporters to a higher standard than your run-of-the-mill WTOP fear-mongers, I mean reporters. For instance, Martin Di Caro, it's either "in the meantime" or "meanwhile," not "meantime." Drives me bonkers.

But, yes, I think we need to hold an intervention for Michael Pope.

Also, I can't remember who does this, but there's at least one traffic guy that I SWEAR is saying "inter loop" of the Beltway instead of "inner loop."
