Opinions on WAMU reporters?

I miss Elliot Francis! At first, I found his nerdy-sounding presentations rather odd, but I got used to him--and then very fond of him. What happened to him? Bring him back! I find Kavitha Cardoso's crisp presentations annoying, but never mind, she seems to be doing a good enough job of education reporting. What's happening to WAMU? Too many shake-ups, it seems. Also, I am fed up with the endless begging for money. It seems that one fund-raising cycle has just ended and another begins. If your expenses are so high, pay folks less, find a way to reduce your expenses--we all have to live within our means without begging constantly for help. By the way, I am a regular contributor and listener to WAMU and WETA, and will continue to listen, but more and more, I tune into WETA and its soothing classical music rather than hearing the endless political commentary, which it seems to me is beaten to death by WETA and PBS (including WETA's Newshour).

All you Michael Pope haters, looks like he may be gone (and Matt Bush too):

I heard Tamika Smith refer to Mary Washington University as Mary Warshington University -- doing the local thing of adding that r that isn't there in Washington. Aaargh! Isn't there some basic training they receive?

Can't believe it. Hate WAMU right now. Won't give.

Who let Tamika on during the weekdays? She's my family's favorite recreation of Les Nessman from the old TV parody 'WKRP'. Remember the Chi Chi Rod-re-gweez episode?

Honestly I would like to give her a chance but she makes us howl whenever she screws up her reading. She's got some good reporting creds - maybe this just isn't her thing?

I won't miss Pope, but I wish he'd take Armando Trull with him.

I am writing to add an opinion to one reader's October 2015 post, below:

"I can't stand Tamika Smith, who appears to have replaced Elliott Francis. She seems to not read any of her copy in advance or listen to herself while she reads, resulting in weird pauses, mispronounced words, and wrong words. My favorite was when she substituted 'descendents' for "dissidents" when talking about China. What she said made NO sense but she read it that way at least three times.

So unprofessional and irritating."

Yuck - Tamika is a cringe-worthy announcer. I wish WAMU had a capable on-air person to read the local announcements. I can hardly stand Saturday mornings on NPR because of Tamika's weird pauses and mispronunciations. She's simply AWFUL! She reads less well than 3rd graders I have known. Isn't reading comprehension part of the job? Such an 'over the top' dramatic quality that the script does not call for. Additionally, I can hardly keep count of Tamika's lack of understanding of what she is reading, as demonstrated by mispronunciations and using the wrong word, as the previous posted pointed out. She is unqualified to be on the air, and I can hardly believe that the people in charge are not listening themselves, and cringing. Can't WAMU find someone else?? Please???

Ooof.

Who makes these decisions? I truly wonder if tv producers and hiring managers strictly hire based on size and looks. No offense, but I can barely watch Graat Day Washington (WUSA9) because her diction drives me nuts!! Not to mention they dumped the white guy that used to co-host. Why?!?! He was some nice white chocolate.

Next let's talk about whomever reads the underwriting for "The Daily" with Michael Barbaro. WHO THE H**K hired her? She sounds ABYSMAL: terrible cadence, pronounciation is 50/50 and there is unnatural 'flava'. Did they ask her to read with sass?? I am an AA woman, so this is not a racial thing. It is a "this person is not fit for voiceover work" thing. (Michael could be a little less dramatic when reading his name and narrating. Overall, no issues with him.)
