That's right, I run a large international corporation.

Not everyone thinks the best way to address global poverty is through the government. I'm sorry if it rocks your world view to know that some people think the free market is good for reasons other than selfish gain.

Um, that was sarcasm. I was "accepting" the charge of being a Capitalist Master.

Because that's worked so well thus far.

It's worked brilliantly, yes. It isn't perfect but it's the best we've got, like democracy.

For you, and all those similarly situated, maybe yes. But never forget that is hardly everyone. That is far from "brilliantly".

You're intentionally missing my point again and again, in addition to call me names and not providing any real response of your own. So in parting I will say, obviously my points have been about raising the general standard of living worldwide and not about my own status. If you really care about this, don't just accept some easy slogan about big corporations screwing the little guy. Figure out what really helps people worldwide.

Was it brilliant before 1935 when lots of old people died in poverty or after, when they were assured of a decent life? I'm pretty sure we thought there was a huge problem that needed to be solved when it was just capitalism.

Ayn Rand used Medicare to pay for her cancer surgery . I think that says all you need to know.

Even left-leaning historians agree the U.S. played a huge roll in bringing down the Soviet Union. And while there are costs to the free market, it has obviously been the driving force in taking people out of poverty world-wide. The fact that many remain in poverty doesn't change that.

Really? Which areas of the world has capitalism and the free market lifted out of poverty?

EVERY part of the world. Ask any economist, no matter how in favor of market regulation or government control.

My dh husband and I are both economists and disagree.

thanks, I guess. I shouldn't have replied that way, but when I was about to type a 5 minute history of the Cold War and its affect on Eastern Europe, I gave up as what is the point? travel through Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary, etc., and ask them who saved them from the Russians.

They saved themselves from the Russians. Not only are you ignorant of history, you are incredibly condescending.

My goodness, what blind ignorance. How many hundreds of billions did the US spend fighting the Soviet Union for 50 years? It was the single foreign policy objective for the world's superpower for half a century. How oppressed were the people living behind the Iron Curtain, both Russian and Eastern European? How many statues of Reagan dot the landscape there now?

As for economics, I'll ignore the PP whose husband and her have "degrees" in economics. The world's per capita income and the lifestyle in the developing non-western world have exploded under free market economies.

LOL

America sat around in WWII while everyone else died, selling arms to both sides, until a few Americans were killed. Real heroes.

Btw how crappy was your Texas high school history. "America saved the world and is the greatest country that ever existed".

Have you ever heard of Rome, Greece, Persia. Do you think Americans invented Math and Shakespeare too?

Idiot
