Sorry. I'll stick with my illegals.

We need to hire a painter, handyperson, landscaper and an electrician to get our house ready for sale. We have found out recently that every person we have hired in the past few years has either 'left the country for family reason' or has 'retired' or is just gone. What is happening? All were immigrants, not sure if they were legal, but they have excellent skills and we were happy with the work. It's difficult to find good help now and wonder about it. WTF? Recommendations welcome! NOVA

Poor you. Why don't you hired a general contractor that IS LEGAL?[/quot

Trash,

PEOPLE are never illegal. They don't have legal documentation to work.

Try not to let your racism show so much.

There are legal day laborers, whether they pay taxes is a different story. You can find day laborers who are citizens in DC. I see them all the time at home depo on Rhode Island. Also young teenagers are happy to make money.

And again, PEOPLE ARE NEVER LEGAL OR ILLEGAL!

Do you know what it is like to read the racial slurs you ignorant trash post on a regular basis?

Latinos are not illegal or legal people. They're human beings.

Hunh. A house in Potomac for only 700k? No way.

Kidding.

I remember when that happened. One of the most haunting and truly evil crimes.

Holy moly, I would never hire day laborers to do anything around my home! I've lived in this area a long time, and remember all the cases of people being murdered or having crimes committed against them by day laborers who had done work on their property. I'm sure there are some honest people out there, but it would never be worth the risk, IMO!

That is really racist, to assume a Latino person might kill you, just because.

You're trash.

I hear crimes happening every single day, for example, recently in Arlington. Should I be afraid of white and black people as well? This is ONE crime that happened years ago, but you're trashing an entire community because of it. That's racist, you dumb hick.

We hired some from outside home depot a few years ago to help build our fence. They were fine. We paid them and bought them lunch.

I have many Latina friends. The advise to never pick up the day laborors for just this reason. You have no idea of the background of the individual you are being to your home.

What is wrong with hiring citizens and paying them a living wage instead of exploiting day laborers for pennies?

It is quite hypocritical to support a living wage then turn around and do the exact same thing you are condeming others for.

We go to Home Depot or hire someone from Craigslist.

In Annapolis, go over by Allen Apartments, down from Shoppers. You'll have plenty of options but it's also a rough area so be cautious and don't go alone.
