Crime is down everywhere 🤷🏿 |
Kinda wondering if ending home rule wouldn't be so bad. It might be the lesser evil here... |
Rinse, repeat. |
"Poke the bear"? I really don't get this line of thinking. I've seen the horror this admin has unleashed on families here and am an immigrant myself. They will continue to do (or attempt) what they planned regardless of who is leading the city, and name-checking who is Mayor is just an excuse to rile up their bases AND the so-called Dems eager to say "I told you so." They are not here to collaborate or slow down. Do you think Bowser has been effective in standing up for autonomy and self-governance in DC this part year? Genuinely wondering what it is that you want to see? What am I missing? |
There were over 2,500 NG troops deployed in late May. Now at 3,450+ in mid-June with target of up to 5,000 over the summer. But if you don't want to look at the numbers and just go by personal anecdotes, I don't live in a tourist area and see them every day multiple times a day patrolling at metro stop, grocery store, playground, up-down quiet residential streets and more—as they have been doing for 300+ days. |

Hi - I don’t think Bowser has been particularly effective. But I think during Trump 1 when he was a constrained madman she poked a bit and he responded with a vengeance at the beginning of Trump 2 (unmarked cars taking neighbors, NG everywhere and of course Ed Martin and now the Fox commentator). He spoils for a fight as others mentioned and Bowser smartly realized that and it seems she may have adjusted her approach to save is the terror of martial law and tanks down our streets on a constant basis.
These are tools in his box and if we have a leader who isn’t playing him the way Mamdani has (with his weird reverence/ bend the knee) or at least is quiet the way Bowser was, then we may get crushed. I fear her confronting him will bring things we haven’t seen before … especially since his poll numbers are down and inflation is high and as of today it seems that interest rates may go up. This will make a madman even more mad. I think we need to stay away and sit tight and give money to senate democrat candidates. |
| PS: obviously there is a city wide schism and the more confrontational approach is winning so I will have to hope and pray that I am wrong and that she controls her impulse to lash back. |
Thanks for sharing your perspective. The lines of causation across multiple points in this thread just don't resonate with me, and oh well, we don't all have to agree obviously. I think we must live in different parts of the city. Also think you're giving Bowser too much credit. Yes there's a madman but Bowser "poking" in 2020 doesn't even come to mind – it's easy to focus on the madman but he doesn't act alone and is part of a power apparatus that has been building up to this—and more—for decades. They had a plan, have more plans, and they are checking off boxes expedidoustly and probably laughing at us along the way. |
|
You lost me at power apparatus… and decades. Are you talking about Project 2025 or something else? And who is the they?
Also I doubt they are laughing at us. We don’t register. |
33 senate Democrats voted to kill that crazy DC crime bill. The national Ds aren’t crazy like the DC socialists. |
You're conflating a number of things (also, do you even live here?). Last year, Trump had National Guard, ICE, Border Patrol, FBI, US Marshals, the DEA, Bureau of Alcohol and Secret Service officers patrolling the streets. He also federalized the DC police. Do you still see all those people on the streets? No, you don't. They've mostly been sent elsewhere. The National Guard troops are now ramping up ahead of the 250th anniversary events, but that's different from the "crime emergency" Trump declared last year in DC. |
| It will be interesting to learn which special interest group bought JLG a house right before the election. |
Just rode by today to check it out. A $1.2 million dollar home, must be nice. I do know, multi-generational housing can't be built on that block. That's for sure. |
Did y’all miss the whole report with data about how the national guard had ZERO effect on violent crime? |
It obviously had a massive effect, if for no other reason that people didn't want to leave their homes. |
