JLG wins Democratic Primary for Mayor

Anonymous

My husband and I recently sold our home in DC. We are renting a luxury apartment in DC. Our kids are grown and we are looking at the buying a beach house elsewhere. We have decided that if JLG is crazy, we will either move to MD or VA as our primary resident, or use our second home as our primary residence. It's so easy for us to do. People act like it's a major thing. It isn't. We are the people that she doesn't want to lose. We live in Ward 3 and I don't want to change my residency, but we don't actually have anything that ties us to live in DC proper.

Nobody cares. Don't let the door hit you in the ass.

Those of us with a brain and a heart care deeply. All our neighbors should feel welcome and as that PP said so eloquently “DC is in an economic tailspin” and we need those tax payer dollars and the disposable income dropped in our businesses.

You may be independently wealthy and able to pave your own roads and pay for private trash pick up and private schools. And congratulations- but the rest of us depend on city services and we need tax payers to fund them

Yeah, about ten of you are going to do this. Crybabies. Like this mayor will be any different from previous ones.

I don’t care if we’re the only ones. Love living here but done paying exorbitant income taxes.

Then move to Missouri or Arkansas. The taxes are low there but the quality of life is more your speed.

You misread. These people are not talking about MOVING. They are talking about moving their PRIMARY RESIDENCE. If you don’t understand the difference, that’s a problem for you.

Yea, well, good luck with actually proving that you really spend the bulk of your time in your bullshit second home. Because DC will check . . .

You are aware that there are other towns out there (most of them) with better schools, are you not?

Huh? What does that have to do with anything?

It was a direct response to the previous post stating:

"Yea, well, good luck with actually proving that you really spend the bulk of your time in your bullshit second home. Because DC will check . . ."

It's pretty idiotic to assert that all the places other than DC are bullshit. Also most other places have better schools. DC (which has, at last check, some of the worst schools in the nation) is not NYC and will not have the same kind of gravitational pull to keep people in the city as NYC did. People are already losing their jobs in record numbers. Pushing them harder by undermining the charter school system is not going to create positive change.

I've got bad news for you. The District has the highest median income in the nation. Compared to the rest of the country you're looking at a lot of rich neighbors. You may want to define the rich. For me, I'm very clear that my interests do not align with the top 2%. A lot of our neighbors are upper middle class. We can use this tax base to our advantage.

What? DC's median household income is second-lowest in the area, only beating out PG. Loudoun, Fairfax, MoCo, Arlington, Alexandria, heck even Prince William County all have higher median household incomes than DC.
