If you like economic ignorance, rampaging teens, street takeovers by ATVs, a declining tax base, failing schools, increased crime and the loss of home rule, you should be ecstatic right now.
It's funny that JLG championed soft-on-crime policies that led to a really nutso explosion in crime in the city.... ....and then that led to Trump commandeering the DC police force and putting troops on every corner, and that led to a precipitous drop in crime, but also pissed everyone off.... ....and then JLG used that widespread antipathy towards Trump to get herself a promotion.... ....which she will no doubt now use to revive her pro-criminal policies, which will mean crime will soar once againn.... ....and then that will lead to guess what?
NG is only in the wealthy, majority white areas. Just saying.
At this point, the guard has mostly left the city. I only see them in tourist areas. But crime has really abated in the past year.
There were over 2,500 NG troops deployed in late May. Now at 3,450+ in mid-June with target of up to 5,000 over the summer. But if you don't want to look at the numbers and just go by personal anecdotes, I don't live in a tourist area and see them every day multiple times a day patrolling at metro stop, grocery store, playground, up-down quiet residential streets and moreāas they have been doing for 300+ days.
You're conflating a number of things (also, do you even live here?). Last year, Trump had National Guard, ICE, Border Patrol, FBI, US Marshals, the DEA, Bureau of Alcohol and Secret Service officers patrolling the streets. He also federalized the DC police. Do you still see all those people on the streets? No, you don't. They've mostly been sent elsewhere. The National Guard troops are now ramping up ahead of the 250th anniversary events, but that's different from the "crime emergency" Trump declared last year in DC.
