Anonymous wrote:Everyone always complains about clubs only taking big players but in the last few years I feel like i have seen the opposite with the emergence of false 8 and all these other footwork programs along with all the drills you see on internet. We seem to every year get at least one new kid that looks great doing all the drills and on the small fields in tryouts then gets out on the big field and keeps trying to repeat what they do in the drills over and over again. With no clue how to play.

There are indeed shortcomings on both ends of the spectrum. False8 and a few other training groups do predominantly have a bunch of little players doing the sessions who are good in tight spaces. But yet, they will get blown away by what is required on an 11v11 field. They will either try to over dribble and lose the ball or just not be able to make a 20 yard pass.

And at the same time, we have big athletic players, that do not have a good 1st touch or can't use their weak foot. The most demanding teams are looking for a hybrid player, who is athletic, can run fast, work long but also have good ball control skills. Those are the ones who are offered spots on the top teams at the bigger clubs.

2nd tier teams are filled with 1 dimensional players like what you describe. If your player is a 1 trick pony, they can only either dribble or would be a great 100m hurdler, then they have work cut out for them.

Arlington had their U11/U12 Pre ECNL tryouts on Saturday. It is completely insane and they are gauging us.

Arlington always looks for size and no technic. Probably they believe they can fix the technic. No wonder why their older teams eventually lag. You can’t fix technic because no club in this area fixes anything LOL.

I can fix your spelling of technique.

FVU boys will be making offers into July. Please come fill up the 25 spots $$ and never make a game day roster. Never win a game either.

2010 DS came out of REC and waited two weeks for the Alexandria first team. Finally got the offer — and now we know why took so long. He is super excited.

Which one of the 200 rescheduled, repurposed, and/or similarly and vaguely named tryouts or ID sessions counts as the “first pre-ECNL tryout”? 🤣

We are a long time Arlington family and I'm am highly annoyed at how they have been handling ecnl and rl with the age group change. They started out strong but are failing now.

Genuinely curious, what are they doing wrong? It seems like all the moving tryouts are a function of weather, but maybe we are not noticing something.

What does this mean? It feels like it is sarcastic but I genuinely can't tell.

You don't notice internal players.

Right now it seems like anyone who is moving down has been forgotten about. There has been poor communication, unanswered emails, and general confusion.

Define moving down? Arlington coaches would love to know

I mean the kids in the last three months of the calendar year.

How so? In my kid’s age group there was at least one Arlington player who is repeating their current age group. I think they are already on the ECNL team for their current age group though. Are you saying they aren’t communicating clearly to kids who currently play RL and could possibly make ECNL for the age group that they will be repeating next year? Is is possible the coaches don’t actually feel that way and this haven’t invited your DC to try out for ECNL?

Correct. This year all RL are invited to ID. It's not just an issue for my kid, it's an issue for all the kids. We all talk. They are not doing a good job of communicating the different events for the older kids and younger kids on one team (where the cutoff divides them). Everyone is confused. Coupled with Arlington's constant urge to bring players from the outside and push them down a year later when they realize they suck, it's all too much.
