The VA clubs select teams for next year in February! The parents are essentially paying for the commitment from their club from August through February. You pay for 10-11 months of programming and get a commitment from your club for 6 months (Aug-Feb). Better players come, and you are not on the team with March, May, June, and maybe July of the season still left. That is a joke, and the adults involved in youth soccer should not allow that. People getting fleeced!
As others have said, just wait and explore all of your options. You will not know the true size and composition of your team until June or July. Can always pay the deposit, as others have stated, or just say you are exploring your options. Talented players will always find a home. Most of these "top" coaches are useless and will promise, recruit, and sell their souls to get a player and build their own brand. Sad state of affairs.
It's so crazy that "top" coaches will promise the world to new recruits to get them to switch, while they ignore their good and core players. They don't realize, current players eventually get tired of the neglect and will look elsewhere. Cost more to recruit new players then to retain current players. It's not just the money but to get new recruits assimilated to the playing style, program, team dynamic. They know this but somehow can't help themselves for some reasons. Like an ego thing to take players from their rival club(s) even if they are not as good as their current players.
