Super Y is trash. Most top players don’t do it.

What are the top players doing during the summer to get better?

Don’t you know? The “good” kids don’t need to improve over the summer. Seriously though, my DD has done Super-Y for the last few summers. Yes, it can be ridiculously hot…and those days suck…but if your kid likes to play and wants to show up in great shape in the fall while playing with some of their teammates over the summer, it’s a great option.

Agree. Good way to get touches and play with some new kids.

Wow…guys…super y is not the only option. In fact, it’s a poor option. Top players do a variety of things over the summer to get better. I think you not knowing about them is pretty clear we are having different experiences. The off season is where we make our gains and it isn’t super y.

Did you think all the kids not on your super duper team were just relaxing at home? Cmon man…get serious.

Like many things in youth soccer, Super Y is a great idea, not so great at implementation (unless your club is really well-organized and makes it THE top summer option)

Such a super helpful post 🙄

How about, instead of basically spurting out, "you suck! I'm awesome!", you actually contribute something useful.

there are a lot of small grassroot clubs and tournaments. they are short term commitments. My DS joins pick up teams, play in summer tournaments. He gets to play with players outside of his club and leagues and develops quickly from these experiences. Many will poopoo that, but it helps my DS and he's in MLSN HG.

He’s just upset that his kid can’t do super y because his kid has to do summer school after getting D’s and F’s in remedial classes.

That sounds like an option for a small subset of players who are 1) at a certain level and 2) have a parent who is very into social media branding and networking. For most kids with parents who have other priorities, it's easier to join a structured team with a regular(ish) practice and game schedule.

Ok...cool. That's a choice.

Perfectly okay with someone choosing USL Y for more long-term commitments than your short-term commitments at Copa Talento, Futsal Nationals, etc.

Play wherever it is you can play.
