MCPS taking a wrecking ball to one of their best schools is stupid Crown is not the same population as single family homes in the wootton cluster. It’s filled with apartments and townhouses. They have more crime than other Wootton communities. Adding rosemont and fields road to Wooton means moms 4 Liberty contingent at wootton although small group are freaking out all over next door that their white babies will have to go to a diverse school. They claim it’s property related no it’s not it’s maga racist shits. As a person that lives in the wootton community I do not want a new name. If MCPS does that then yep property values will take a nose dive as well college acceptances. Lucky me no kids in play |
| This FARMS stuff is some sort of excuse. There are barely any coming. Wootton at Crown will still have such a low number. Absolutely crazy if that is the leg you are standing on. |
You just hit the nail on the head! FARMS kids are great until they mess with my home value. And, for all you whining about the distance, you do realize that it’s 3 miles between Wootton HS and Downtown Crown? 3.5 freaking miles. We aren’t talking 35 miles. It’s 3.5 miles. I’m sure you drive further than that to go to the mall or out to eat. Your kids will be fine adding 3.5 miles to their daily drive. If they aren’t, then they probably shouldn’t be driving to school. |
You can't just waive your hand and complain about "townhouses." There are plenty of townhouses in Stonebridge, by the way. But unlike the ones in Crown (https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/606-Crown-Park-Ave-Gaithersburg-MD-20878/119331492_zpid/), none cost over a million dollars. I doubt your claims of crime and Crown. Either way, there's higher crime in Manhattan than there is in "North Potomac" but the people living on the Upper East Side are far more wealthy than your average DuFief/Stonebridge individual. |
Also ridiculous because Fallsmead Elementary School includes people from the Washingtonian/Rio center and has hovered with a FARMS rate of 17-20% because the Washingtonian area is lower income. Haven't heard anyone complaining about how horrendous it was to send their kids to Fallsmead over the years because it was a higher FARMS school than Lakewood. |
Crown is mostly town houses not single family stonebridge and Dufief are the opposite with no apartments. Crime stats can be found online yes crown has higher crime rates None of this is NYC not sure why you added that it’s not remotely relevant. |
| The biggest issue is college acceptances Wootton is a high producing school if they rename it say goodbye to rankings |
You're answering your own question here. The entire reason luxury "urban suburban" developments like Crown or Pike & Rose have become more and more popular in recent years is that an increasing number of people would prefer not to spend their money on secluded neighborhoods with little activities right around them and instead want a more active space. If that's not your preferred way of spending your wealth, that's fine. However, if you think that more single family homes simply means "more wealth" and "nicer lifestyle," then you aren't grasping the fact that upper middle class individuals are increasingly choosing other options. Townhomes in Crown are, on average, more expensive than they are in places like Stonebridge or DuFief. The same goes for the single family homes. |
| Shut up, Wootton. |
Taylor isn’t renaming it, well not exactly. He has to keep the Wootton name to maintain the fiction that this is a move and not a closure. Yet that’s what it is when you move a school, change the boundaries, and add 30% new students who would have gone to other high schools. Wootton @ Crown Farm is like New Coke. Doesn’t taste anything like it, but at least it has the same name. Probably will be just as successful…. Oh wait, no it won’t and no amount of advertising (vibes) will fix it. |
| MCPS likes the "keep the name, change the meaning" thing. Ditto with regional programs. People still thinking the STEM will be the old SMCS. Etc. |
Gosh you’re so clever. Don’t you need to do your homework and clean up your room before mom gets home? |
Really? Go tell this crap to someone who lives elsewhere. Both Stone mill and Travilah are 3 to 4 miles from Ridgeview and 7 miles from Hoover Move them both to QO and move other schools to Hoover. |
All these changes make it nicer for the Wootton Churchill community QO used to be a great school but now it is a rating of 5. Way to make a good school go bad by bringing in FARMS kids from closer to 355 to QO when they should be bringing in kids from North Potomac. |
? Opposite effect. Coming from high performing schools like the Ws makes it harder for college admissions. colleges will look at your kid compared to their peers in the same HS. If 90% of Wootton families are moving to Crown, not much will have changed, other than maybe since Crown will have a higher FARMs rate, your high stats kid will stand out more. Go read the UMD acceptance thread. Lots of high stats kids from W schools get rejected at UMD. If that kid went to a school with a higher FARMs rate, they'd probably have an easier time getting into UMD. |
