USC has an even worse reputation for people living in California, since the UC schools are better and way cheaper and in better locations. Back in my day, the only kids who went to USC were USC legacies or kids who couldn't get into UCLA but wanted to stay in L.A.

No. It’s the one that leads the pack. It was the first one to hover over $90k only a few years ago - then the rest followed. I am aware of only 2 over $100k - NYU and a SLAC in Colorado. The rest are $94-$96, but the moment USC goes over, the rest will follow. USC is actually over now because it allots only $462 for travel. You can tell it doesn’t want to be the one big name to attract attention when it goes over $100k.

USC is also different from typical privates because most private universities are smaller, and most universities of comparable size are public and thus less expensive, even for OOS.

At that level? What’s the difference if it’s 99k v 95k? USC is closer for me, there’s less travel costs. Univ of Chicago, Columbia, NYU, they are within spitting distance. And just behind them, are schools like Boston College, liberal arts colleges, and most private universities.

My child was admitted to University of Richmond. $92,000 no aid or merit. For a college most people have never heard of.

It’s a crazy world out there, and why public flagships are extremely popular.
