It can happen in the US (look at outbreaks in many states) and it can happen with other diseases. If you are making an “informed” decision make sure your information stays up to date.

How can this be? Canada is far superior to the US and does everything correctly.

I understand that vaccines protect us from catching certain diseases but does an unvaccinated person become more of a “host” of disease and that’s why they can’t be around vaccinated people?

If his parents say he doesn’t have to wear a helmet while biking is it dangerous for your kids to go bike riding with him too?

I mean I wouldn't let my kid ride bikes with a kid who wasn't wearing a helmet because my kid might be influenced to slip his own helmet off or have to deal with seeing his cousin crack his skull open.

The metaphor doesn't quite work.

They’re 5 & 8, perfectly healthy kids.

Until they get measles

We vaccinate selectively and do include MMR and DTaP.

Where’d you get your medical degree?

My husband and I are highly educated professionals.. Let parents make their own choices

I would make the decision never to have your children anywhere near mine, and I’d tell all the other parents why as well.

I’m okay with that.
Like I said before, we believe in parental freedom (including yours) and do all natural parenting.

Same. It's why we had 6. If only half make it to adulthood we will still jave a nice, large family size by DC standards.

ILY.

Yes, options here include asymptomatic positives, but also since unvaccinated people often get sicker for longer, not only could the contagion period be longer than the vaccinated person can fight off, but it may also lead to the unvaccinated person being host when the disease further mutates.

Okay. Do you think a doctor (who is a highly educated professional) would do better in court by hiring a lawyer and following their advice or by representing themself and specifically making an argument that they were advised against, by not only your husband but by every lawyer they consulted, as well as the well-publicized advice of the American Bar Association?

As someone who works in investment banking, what would you think if a (highly educated, professional) doctor told you that because of their research they’d decided to ignore your advice and invest all their money in the latest “hot tip”, even though you think it a poor risk? In fact, they’ve mortgaged their home and maxed out their credit cards to invest in this boondoggle. Theoretically, it could possibly work out and you’d probably hope it does, but it’s a huge gamble that could be disastrous if it doesn’t.

The whole point of experts is that there is too much knowledge for any individual (no matter how well educated) to master it all. That’s not to say that we should blindly follow whatever a specific expert may say (they’re only human, after all, and thus fallible). However when there is universal agreement among experts in a field that disagrees with our own inexpert opinion, I think we should be highly skeptical of our conclusions and why they differ from the consensus of the experts who specialize in that field.

Put the antivaxers in jail everytime they get someone else sick.

I just feel for the kids who are needlessly going to die or have lifelong heart and lung problems or be blind and deaf.
