The charts read as if the holding school proposal is moot and they’ll do the construction for Sligo and Eastern while those students are on site. But I thought that wasn’t feasible/would take longer. |
The holding school was only supposed to be for one year of Sligo's construction-- the other year of Sligo's construction and all of Eastern's construction was/is supposed to happen with the students still on site. |
What do you dislike about F? |
| I didn’t get a text about the meeting tonight. I assume it was like the others without any public comments? |
Splits up Northwood a whole bunch. And Einstein too. |
| I like option F best, but is it DOA because it moves a Whitman elementary school to Westland and BCC? |
I’m in the Einstein catchment and I like F because it keeps multiple elementary schools together while balancing capacity, geography, and FARMS rates. |
| We live two blocks from Sligo, but all three new options assign us to Eastern. 🙄 |
I mean, maybe. But they just swapped Wood Acres and Bethesda Elementary for no real reason. If people in other neighborhoods like that option, they could just not do the swap. |
| Interesting to see the popularity of option F. This (along with B) is the big change option for my neighborhood — ESS, currently zoned for Blair and could move to Northwood. I’m not foaming at the mouth about it but I’d prefer to stay Blair. |
|
Are the interactive maps not interactive this time? I thought you could click on your neighborhood and see the options?
|
It looks like they swapped them to increase Whitman FARMS but it’s a little nuts bc much of Bethesda Elementary is walk zone to BCC. I don’t see any other reason? |
I think they would just stay at SSIMS until 2030. |
|
No data tables or anything up yet for F or G, just E. I wonder if that means anything?
Eyeballing, it looks like F and G have Sligo MS more over-capacity (before addition) than option E which has it right at capacity. And F has Eastern less over-capacity than E and G (which have it over 200 over-capacity before the new building is completed.). But would like to see the actual numbers. This all assumes that they are closing SSIMS early, but the documents still say it's closing in 2030. But then where do the kids go in the meantime? |
Yeah I'm an ESS family and agree with you. I think Northwood will be a fine school but I hate the idea of middle college. It feels like it kind of destroys both the high school and the college experience. I hope with the larger school there will be enough advanced kids not doing MC that my kids can do normal high school and still have advanced classes. So I hope we stay Blair, but we'll make the best of Northwood. I was upset about the possibility of being sent to SSIMS and then having it be closed and have to be bussed for middle school so I'm glad that seems like it won't happen. |
