Saw it has an odd cut out of Nestlewood Dr and Rounding Run Circle well into proposed new boundary for new school- so homes to left and right of those streets assigned to new school but those streets stay at Oakton. Why? Do vocal parents live there that don’t want to move and were accommodated or why the odd cut out? I thought I had read part of reason FCPS was doing new boundaries was to have entire neighborhoods going to same schools, no?

They don't go to Crossfield. They go to Navy. It's been that way for many, many years.

I was told --long ago--that when Crossfield opened, that area lobbied to stay at Oak Hill. (there was no FFX County Parkway at that time.) Then, when Chantilly Highlands was built out, Oak Hill was too crowded and they were sent to Navy.
I cannot verify this, but this was from a neighbor who lived here at that time. I guess it is also possible that they were at Navy before Oak Hil was built.

I grew up in this area and this is pretty much it. Once Oak Hill was overcrowded, the county proposed moving the Tuckaway Dr area of Franklin Farm out of Crossfield to Navy and then move the Navy Island kids into Crossfield. My parents and friends fought it because we had already been moved from Oak Hill to Crossfield when it opened. So the county opted instead to move the island to Navy which is how we got here.

Isn’t crossfield now under-enrolled and Navy overenrolled? Probably time to move that island back to crossfield.

If there is space at Crossfield, it would def be the logical thing to do, especially if Crossfield ends up at Western. It makes way more sense to put them at Crossfield than Oak Hill because you have the FFX Parkway as a boundary line.

Except what high school does Oak Hill go to? I suspect the cut out wants to stay at Oakton. Also they go to Franklin MS, and the Crossfield folk do not.

You have not looked at the Western Fairfax thread, have you?
This area has a different boundary issue going on now. Crossfield may or may not go to the new school.

HAHAH so in every scenario a large swath of Franklin Farm and Folktone is heading to Western HS? Anyone boots on the ground there are they raising pitchforks? This is gonna be soooooo good.

---
I do spend time with a lot FF folks, and its pros/cons for them in regards to the distance to Oakton. I just know a lot of them will not want to leave Oakton.

Option B

I think longer term they likely do want to move Forestville ES out of Langley to Herndon.

Moving part of Oakton to the Western HS now will make it easier for them to say in a few years that they do care about transportation distances, and haven't totally forgotten it's flagged as a key consideration in Policy 8130.

Hopefully they will. Fingers crossed! I hear Oak Hill families are organizing around wanting to stay at Chantilly. It should be an interesting meeting.

Gee. I haven't heard that at all. And, guess where I live!

Anyone dive into map "D" yet with that little cut off staying at Oakton?

Have a thought...that area of Franklin Farm has the church and the kinder care.

The church has been moving forward on developing that land into a kind of multi unit subsidized housing complex. Curious if that is part of the thought there.
Last update I could find on it..

This actually isn't true. The first part anyway, a lot of the people we know in FF who have high schoolers are trying to stay at Oakton but I don't think they'll win this fight because their argument is silly. In no way does Franklin Farm feel like part of the Oakton community. For example our kids play CYA, Loudoun, or Reston sports - I don't know anyone that does Vienna sports because it's too farm LOL! Our kids are in summer camp here, not in Oakton or Vienna. All their friends from activities are going to go to the new high school. All their friends from middle school are going to go to the new high school.

That has been cut out for years and has nothing to do with the possible affordable housing--which has already been scaled back and may never happen. Terrible location for the traffic.

I find that laughable too. Chantilly feels much more like our community high school because it’s so much closer. It’s a contrived argument by the sports parents. It’s only your community if you actually have kids at Oakton. There is no special events or outreach happening for younger kids, unlike what you hear about in other pyramids.

That part of Navy exclave is scheduled to merge into Oak Hill in the general boundary review. see https://www.fcpsboundaryreview.org/

I’m hearing that some people want Crossfield to be moved to Franklin and for Oak Hill to be moved to Carson. That way everyone at Franklin can go onto Oakton together and everyone at Carson can go to the new high school. Is there any chance of that actually happening or is that just grasping at straws?Wouldn’t that have to go through a whole review process with feedback etc.?
