Western High School Boundary Map options (A/B/C/D)

Is there any chance of that actually happening or is that just grasping at straws?Wouldn’t that have to go through a whole review process with feedback etc.?

I don't think anything like that would be done until the boundary for the new school is determined. Crossfield may end up at KAA. If they don't, I see that as a possibility.

I also see the possibility that if Fox Mill stays at South Lakes, that they could be zoned to Hughes (is there room?)

I can definitely see this happening. They have an opportunity to resolve the messy feeder that is Carson. So I think once they land on who goes to KAA they will address middle schools. Tricky part is there are parts of Oak Hill that walk to Franklin, but thats the reality when schools are placed right on boundary lines. Franklin always has been a split feeder, so if for some reason Crossfield stays at Oakton, I imagine they get moved to Franklin to pair up with the Navy kids.

If the high school parents somehow convince the board not to move Crossfield, I hope they will move Crossfield kids to Franklin MS. But I really hope they put Crossfield at Western High. It make the most sense.

I do spend time with a lot FF folks, and its pros/cons for them in regards to the distance to Oakton. I just know a lot of them will not want to leave Oakton.

They are proposing that KAA become a magnet school - that ship has sailed, ladies!!!

Hughes doesn’t have capacity. It may in the future if Herndon middle becomes an AAP.

This is probably why a move to the new school is being proposed for them, right? If left at Carson, they're the only school that doesn't go to KAA/Western.

Start AAP at Herndon. Solved.

or, send them to Franklin.

FCPS has provided no information on what clubs and programs ( sports , marching band etc.) will be made available in the new western high school. Additionally, there has been no clarity on the availability of teachers. Navy elementary struggled to fulfill a 6th grade teacher last year and a principal.

I dont expect staffing the school to be difficult. There are many many teachers and staff at schools across FCPS that live west of Fairfax County that would love to work closer to home

Teachers will jump to teach there.

No school "struggles to fill" any position. HQ may struggle to fill a principal space and a principal may struggle to fill a 6th grade teacher slot.

Anonymous wrote:I posted in another general boundary thread before saw this one specific to the exact 4 plans and my question is to map 4. Saw it has an odd cut out of Nestlewood Dr and Rounding Run Circle well into proposed new boundary for new school- so homes to left and right of those streets assigned to new school but those streets stay at Oakton. Why? Do vocal parents live there that don’t want to move and were accommodated or why the odd cut out? I thought I had read part of reason FCPS was doing new boundaries was to have entire neighborhoods going to same schools, no?

They don't go to Crossfield. They go to Navy. It's been that way for many, many years.

I was told --long ago--that when Crossfield opened, that area lobbied to stay at Oak Hill. (there was no FFX County Parkway at that time.) Then, when Chantilly Highlands was built out, Oak Hill was too crowded and they were sent to Navy.
I cannot verify this, but this was from a neighbor who lived here at that time. I guess it is also possible that they were at Navy before Oak Hil was built.

I grew up in this area and this is pretty much it. Once Oak Hill was overcrowded, the county proposed moving the Tuckaway Dr area of Franklin Farm out of Crossfield to Navy and then move the Navy Island kids into Crossfield. My parents and friends fought it because we had already been moved from Oak Hill to Crossfield when it opened. So the county opted instead to move the island to Navy which is how we got here.

Isn’t crossfield now under-enrolled and Navy overenrolled? Probably time to move that island back to crossfield.

If there is space at Crossfield, it would def be the logical thing to do, especially if Crossfield ends up at Western. It makes way more sense to put them at Crossfield than Oak Hill because you have the FFX Parkway as a boundary line.

Except what high school does Oak Hill go to? I suspect the cut out wants to stay at Oakton. Also they go to Franklin MS, and the Crossfield folk do not.

You have not looked at the Western Fairfax thread, have you?
This area has a different boundary issue going on now. Crossfield may or may not go to the new school.

Hopefully they will. Fingers crossed! I hear Oak Hill families are organizing around wanting to stay at Chantilly. It should be an interesting meeting.

Gee. I haven't heard that at all. And, guess where I live!

I also haven't heard that at all, and I am also an Oak Hill resident. Everyone I spoken to is thrilled about th ne school. To be honest, "everyone I've spoken to" is probably fewer than 50 people, but it's still a good number.

number.

Navy, Waples Mill, and Crossfield would all be Oakton.
