Wow. Why the lateral move? Bizarre.

He's done well at H-A. We loved him, our kid responded to his leadership style.

What's the intel on Bigelow at Mann?

I thought they laterally moved principals all the time? I think Shepherd is in revolt right now and needs a strong, well-established leader. So your loss, I guess?

Bigger question….why does Shephard go through Principals so quickly?

Does it? The last one was there 4 years. What’s the typical tenure of a DCPS principal?

Not the person the panel recommended. Wonder if their first choice candidate is going elsewhere or DCPS overruled them. After all their bad luck with the old principal, lame to do a panel and then not give them their first choice.

Our AP said it’s not an assignment, it’s a mutual decision. So if the panel ranks a candidate #1 but that candidate declines, it’s just the way it is.

Your AP is mistaken. Panels don't rank candidates. They don't vote. They don't even give a recommendation. They give feedback - positive and negative - for each panelist they see. And based on that, the Instructional Superintendent gives their rec to the Chancellor. The Chancellor makes the final decision.

They only said it’s a mutual decision. Are you saying the candidate doesn’t get to decide at all and are just placed by the Chancellor?

This made me LoL

The candidate gets to refuse a school. They also get to avoid interviewing in the first place, so it's rare that they would do the interview and then back out, but it happens. We had one panelist who made a late decision to move to her home state for example.

Sometimes the questions and demeanor of the panelists turn candidates off. I've sat on my school's panel twice (unfortunately) and on one of the panels a teacher was so specific with the school's challenges we could tell by their questions back to us that they weren't really going to be comfortable. He ended up being our top choice, but he took a hard pass.

They probably begged her since CHML is such a disaster in terms of administration.

CHML is also sort of a step up for someone with an interest in further leadership roles, because it includes a middle school.

This. Also it's spelled Shepherd. Last longer term principal left education. Then there was an interim.

I'm not surprised. Brown has ambition and poor ethical standards written all over him.

Why are you devastated over this? There are so many other pressing things going on in the world. People change jobs all of the time.

Devastated because with all the other things going on in the world, knowing my child was in a supportive and safe environment was helpful. Having my kid at a school with a leader unafraid to champion DEI in the current environment was one thing that helped my mental health. I’m sure things will be ok, and I’m sure not everyone is sad he’s going, but personally was hoping we’d have him for a few more years.

Kimberley Bigelow is great. Don't fret.

Just his entire staff. Including the people he chose as teacher and employee of the year last year.
