Your AP is mistaken. Panels don't rank candidates. They don't vote. They don't even give a recommendation. They give feedback - positive and negative - for each panelist they see. And based on that, the Instructional Superintendent gives their rec to the Chancellor. The Chancellor makes the final decision.

The candidate gets to refuse a school. They also get to avoid interviewing in the first place, so it's rare that they would do the interview and then back out, but it happens. We had one panelist who made a late decision to move to her home state for example.

You have Andria Caruthers who admits to ethics violations and fraud/double dipping and she just goes “oh, oops, sorry, I didn’t know” and marches on like nothing happened. So what would it be called to ask for or expect her resignation?

It’s a feature, not a bug. She worked for Relay. Now that she’s trained by Relay and employed by Relay, DCPS doesn’t need to pay for Relay. They get two for the price of one.

DP - No, because for that to be true, Relay would have to be beneficial.

DCPS thinks it is to the point of saying we are a Relay district. So if you have someone who has all the knowledge, training, and institutional knowledge of a program, would you fire them and pay for the program or give them a (relatively) quiet slap on the wrist and get their knowledge for free? This is a no brainer if you are DCPS.

So, again, this sounds like a low bar for DCPS, not a high bar?

Absolutely. I never said it was a high bar. It just explains how DCPS justified keeping a terrible leader with documented ethics violations. Worth another thread if you want to start one but we should derail this thread.

She is just awful! I do not understand why they simply do not say she’s found ‘something else’ and get rid of her.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he jumped at the chance to leave. Those affluent parents at Hyde treated him terribly. They were condescending and treated him like he was a slave.

Having my kid at a school with a leader unafraid to champion DEI in the current environment was one thing that helped my mental health. With Ferebee leaving, I’m curious to see if other instructional superintendents leave as well. Ferebee was useless, but instructional superintendents have a lot of power over the schools they supervise. Not all of them are bad, but more than a few are—ethics violations, pushing tech tools and scripted curriculum, using instructional methods that are not evidenced-based, etc. Depending on who wins the mayoral race, DCPS could see a lot of new leadership coming in.
