It’s cute how excited you get when people are arrested for committing ticketable offenses you don’t partake in yet recoil in horror at the enforcement of other laws you willfully disregard.

Yes, we’d still be grateful. Arrest All Lawbreakers. Happy?

The average American commits three felonies a day completely unknowingly. You personally may not be committing three felonies day every day but I would be willing to put money down that if "arrest all lawbreakers" was implemented unilaterally you'd be in jail sooner rather than later.

Our entire society is predicated on those authorized to commit violence on behalf of the state using good discretion in doing so. If they weren't allowed to we'd all be in jail.

A family of any color peacefully drinking alcohol in the park deserves that discretion. And if your only argument is "well they broke the law" then you deserve to be in jail right alongside them, because chances are you did too.

Local dumb guy weighs in from the bar.

Almost every other major city in the world allows this, but somehow it's not possible in the land of freedom? Your priorities are so f'd or you're just a typical troll.

Be mindful if you hanging out on federal land in DC. Park Police have started arresting people for open containers and marijuana usage. I thought this was only a ticketable offense but I guess not. Majority of parks in DC are ran by the national park service, so just keep an eye out.

They can’t do this. Marijuana is legal now.

D.C.'s local laws are irrelevant on federal land.

Smoking pot in any public space is still very much illegal under DC law: https://mpdc.dc.gov/marijuana

Some of the parks downtown are filthy with used condoms, syringes, liquor bottles and trash laying everywhere. Its like what kind of activity goes on there.

Good for the Park Police!

Can they please arrest those who flaunt the law by smoking pot in public (even while driving a vehicle)?!

What would be cool is if they would enforce leash laws.

I honestly do not understand why it took this for Park Police to actually do their jobs.

Can you please also address the off leash dog situation? Also empty all the overfull trashcans, actually maintain the vegetation, and repair broken facilities in a timely manner.

Don’t have the money to do that.

At national parks? Most of the national parks in DC don't even have bathrooms.

The truth is that Congress has been underfunding the Park Service generally, Trump laid off a ton of people earlier this year, and the federal government generally doesn't care that the NPS failure to properly maintain national parks in DC has a major negative impact on residents (I would bet most politicians have no idea that many of the neighborhood parks in the District are owned by the federal government and managed by NPS). Suddenly it's politically expedient to Trump to do something with those parks, so now NPS is doing things it always could have been doing but never did because it wasn't a federal priority.

And yes, that's under Democratic and Republican administrations, though also I cannot emphasize enough how much Congressional Republicans seek to screw over the district in funding. At least Congressional Dems will actually meet with DC reps and support some of our priorities, especially those from MD and VA.

Oh, it's coming to NYC too. Along with Baltimore, Chicago, SF, Seattle.. America will be great again by fixing one crappy liberal held city at a time.

Agree! Also RCP has a men’s and a women’s bathroom. There is no fluid bathroom. Maybe previous PP should visit DC before popping off like a moron.

Yes. It’s about time that police - at any level started cracking down on lawlessness and public disorder. I’m sick and tired of smelling pot on sidewalks and wafting from moving vehicles.

And since you are “sick and tired” of a smell you are asking to have people put in jail and receive criminal charges? Why are you allowed to force the pollution of your car exhaust on others? You are a hypocrite.
