We have searched for a non pitbull mixed breed in the local shelters for years, and the only dogs available are pitbulls, pitbull mixes, or obvious pitbulls with the silly deceptive monikers of things like "lab mix" (insert some family friendly dog breed with mix to disguise the fact that the breed is almost completely pitbull.)

There are never any regular mutts available in shelters. When they do show up oine, they are adopted before you can get to the shelter. Meanwhile, the pitbulls and pitbull mixes sit for weeks or longer

There are too many pitbulls, and not enough family friendly non pitbull mutts available.

There are shelters and there are rescues, as has been repeated multiple times on this thread. There are hundreds of dogs who have zero pit who are looking for homes. If you can't handle the internet well enough to find them, you can't handle dog ownership. There is exacly zero way you searched "for years" and never found any non-pit-type dogs. You sound really stupid when you say things like that, and you may well be, but the reality is not what you're alleging.

"Bosun" is a degradation of the military term boatswain, and is used by a DC area breeder of backyard mutts to try to elevate their wares from "backyard mutt" to something desirable. Allegedly, the dogs have been genetically tested to not have pit genes (as if this makes them magical somehow). They overbreed their limited stock for profit, same as any other backyard/low-integrity breeder. It's coming up on DCUM because they made a whole thread about it, a covert ad, and when multiple people pointed out the lack of need for more mutts, they got completely unhinged, took the drama to facebook, and otherwise destroyed their credibility. They still lurk and post here, often fanning the flames on anti-pit threads.

The whole idea was that their mutts were special somehow. The obvious problem is the fact that there are already plenty of non-pit mutts looking for homes, and nobody needs unstable people breeding more mutts for profit.
