Grades are due 6/17, not on Friday. Friday is the last day the work can be assigned.

The only students who are allowed to come on Tuesday are those who have fallen behind on their work and/or have meetings scheduled with teachers. (Monday was already a day reserved for 8th graders to orient to Churchill, so that was already scheduled as a day off for HS students.)

+1 I find that very hard to believe. It's a legal requirement to have those 180 days.

My colleagues and I were guessing who would come and on our list were kids of parents who work full time in the office. We have childcare needs too, of course we understand.

Anyone jealous of our summers off, please quit your job and become a teacher!! Take the praxis exams, take some classroom management professional developments. We desperately need such kind and devoted individuals such as yourselves.

Wait? Why aren’t you rushing to sign up??? Is it not the most glamorous, easy job?? With a 2 month vacation as icing on the already sweet sweet cake??

At the top

On Monday, June 16, Winston Churchill will be holding the Incoming 9th Grade Orientation, and only current students participating and leading sessions for Orientation will attend. Tuesday, June 17 will only be for students that have previously coordinated with teachers and counselors to complete specific make-up work to finish the school year.

Did you miss this part?

Can they just do that unilaterally? I don't know if central office or the board would approve.

And didn't Taylor institute a systemwide orientation day for new students before the first day of school in the fall?

This is your principal, Mr. Taylor, with your announcements and reminders for the week of June 8th. As a reminder, the last day of instruction for current students is an Early Release Schedule Day on Friday, June 13.

Wow that's a pretty blatant admission by Churchill that kids aren't going to get 180 days. My kids' schools did not say any such thing.

Who cares about the 180 days any way? It is just a stupid number. Y’all are a bunch of bureaucrats. You should be more worried about the fact that kids are not retaining much information year to year. And HS start time in MCPS is whacked. And no I’m not a teacher.
