This is your principal, Mr. Taylor, with your announcements and reminders for the week of June 8th. As a reminder, the last day of instruction for current students is an Early Release Schedule Day on Friday, June 13. On Monday, June 16, Winston Churchill will be holding the Incoming 9th Grade Orientation, and only current students participating and leading sessions for Orientation will attend. Tuesday, June 17 will only be for students that have previously coordinated with teachers and counselors to complete specific make-up work to finish the school year.

Wow that's a pretty blatant admission by Churchill that kids aren't going to get 180 days. My kids' schools did not say any such thing.

Who cares about the 180 days any way? It is just a stupid number. Y’all are a bunch of bureaucrats. You should be more worried about the fact that kids are not retaining much information year to year. And HS start time in MCPS is whacked. And no I’m not a teacher.

Some of us are capable of managing multiple concerns. MCPS isn't even making the attempt to try to look like it's offering 180 days, which is already amongst the lowest number of school days attended by students in advanced economies. Pathetic!

The US is near the top in terms of how many hours of instruction students receive per year. Worldwide there’s no research that indicates great number of days of instruction has any benefit on learning.

MCPS far exceeds the number of minutes of instruction compared to the majority of districts in the US.

So for those not going, are you calling in sick or just going to have an unexcused absence? I already have a few unexcused absences and a bunch of excused due to sickness for my high schooler and I keep getting those letters that he’s missed too much school. He doesn’t want to go and I’m fine with that, I just don’t want it on his record that he missed too much school. Am I over thinking this?
