College and University Discussion
Before it is American it is an educational institution. Anyone should be able to attend. |
Same for the rowers. My DS was shocked by how international all of the rowing teams are. He went on official visits to Yale and Harvard and they were all older and from abroad. |
wow. really? link? that's not right. |
I hope that gives Harvard an even bigger chance to stick it to him in court. |
So pull ALL OF THEIR FUNDING. They can't have it both ways. |
Is it bc they are full pay? I don't actually understand the "why" here. |
wrong. its in America. I don't have the right to attend a university in China or India or even Europe before a native citizen in those locales. WHY IS THIS SO HARD FOR YOU ALL TO UNDERSTAND |
Do you not understand how much research and innovation they do that benefits ALL of us????? I just can't even deal with the ignorance in this country anymore. |
link? |
Exactly! Why is a "private" school getting tax dollars? And why has this "private" school whined like a little bitch about losing its public funds? |
It's at the end of the gifted NYT article earlier in the thread. |
No one has a right to attend Harvard either. They are carefully selected based on extremely selective criteria. I'm sorry that American kids don't cut the mustard. |
Same. Agree with you as a Dem. |
IT's largely because in other countries the kids start rowing at an earlier age and are more developed. They were interested in my DS because he is a unicorn in the sense that as a rower he had the academics to get in on his own (top stats, 1580 SAT, 4.0, merit scholar, etc.). Each team is required to keep track of their academic index and its collective. So a student like my son would pull up the average of the team. The shocking thing is how low the bar becomes because of that. And the thing that sucks is that even though my son is a good rower, be would never make it into the top boats, he would simply be there for his grades and the team index. It's insane. He ultimately decided not to row in college at the D1 level and chose the club route. IT's a pretty dirty business at the D1 level. |
Don't blame them. Why would they want to stay in this crumbling country when they could have amazing experiences abroad. |
