The people who are the maddest are the ones who are skinny because of disordered eating habits that they have honed over many years to keep them from gaining a pound. They are PISSED that other people can get their food intake under control with a drug instead of through anorexia, shame and obsessive working out. They see their triumph as them being better than other people. But now that the playing field is being evened out they are mad about it.

I actually think the biggest and worst judgment comes from people with great genes and metabolism. Many many of these people think they "just use portion control" when they have no idea that I could eat exactly 1/2 of them and remain exactly the same weight or eat the same amount as they do and feel absolutely starving. They want to feel superior and like winners, not just lucky. And now that we also feel full and satisfied after 1/2 of a restaurant meal or are losing weight no our usual healthy diet, they feel we're cheating. We all just want to be healthy. Let us be.

They probably do know this... all you have to do is watch a couple episodes of My 600 Pound Life to realize that. The thing is, when you eat healthily, your appetite/stomach size does adjust. And even if you wanted to eat large amounts, that's completely fine so long as it's healthy. No one is getting fat off eating huge amounts of brocolli, let's be 100% real.

Who eats huge amount of broccoli, for real?
I'm a healthy-eating vegetarian and was at a healthy weight and A1c before menopause and cancer. Under care of my pcp, I tried many ways to lose weight and reduce A1c and was unsuccessful. Enter GLP-1. Eat the same and lose weight and achieve normal A1c at the same time. It's been a miracle drug for me.

Who is eating the same (amount?) on GLP as before? I mean, literally this board is full of people saying they were NOT eating as much as before.

Op, are you the same Op that took GLP-1 to lose 15 pounds and weight 120 at 5’7”?

A lot of people need these drugs, but there are also people with eating disorders using them (we have some of them here.

Doctors take these drugs.

So as we sit on fora likes these debating their health benefits and waxing poetic about prunes with nary a medical degree in sight… medical doctors are signing up.

The NYT just had an article about how at a recent cardiologist conference so many of the attendees were half their size. They see the benefits (to their heart etc) of weighing less and have signed on. Everyone pushes away their plates of food after eating tiny amounts.

I am ready to start taking these medications. I feel like weight loss medication will eventually be like orthodontia, or epidurals or air conditioning. Something we all thought we could live without, until we found out we didn’t have to.

I think this is the best explanation I've read of why some people are uncharitable about these drugs. It is not a world of naturally skinny people who don't think about food and more overweight people who think about food all the time. There are also thin people who have fought tooth and nail to maintain being skinny and yes, they are jealous that now there is an easier way to stay thin and since they are thin already using the gut it out approach they can't take these drugs. They're pissed at you all and hungry.

NP. I think an even more important aspect for many of the disciplined Tracy Flick types is that they're no longer special standouts in the banging bod department. They've ^^ fought tooth and nail to have the most special pretty Barre bodies, the best lasered faces, the buttery-est highlights, the most uniform veneered teeth ... but mainly the skinny thing.

And now, especially in certain zipcodes, we're ALL thin! Size 4 Emily doesn't stand out anymore at the Club 4th of July party.

Disciplined Tracy Flick types? Well, it’s good that you are all finally admitting that you aren’t disciplined.

Doctors also use illegal drugs. The fact that doctors take them doesn’t mean anything.

I'm moderately disciplined in many domains and I also love cannoli. But whatever, now I'm thin and toned (see, the discipline comes in w/r/t regular strength training and cardio). And I'll still put away 1/2 a cannoli whenever I'm with family. Go cry into your cup of miso broth.

Oh, look at you. You tried to mock people for being disciplined, but you just told on yourself. Sorry you need drugs to stop at half a cannoli.

You need to understand that she is just moderately disciplined; therefore, the need for drugs.

YES EXACTLY. THIS IS THE POINT. How stupid are you that you don't understand this. Clearly your superior (yet somehow moronic) brain has some signals going on that OP is missing and this drug gives her. It's amazing! Congrats, OP! My insurance doesn't cover it, but I am considering doing Lilly Direct to get it.

Yup. Just like the people who take blood pressure medicine so they don't have a heart attack or diabetics who have to take insulin or asthmatics who will have to carry inhalers for the rest of their lives or people with thyroid disease who need to take Synthroid. I could go on and on, PP.

It's jealousy. People who lose weight on this drug convince themselves that people who are slimmer are simply able to be that way with little effort or with some sort of natural will power. Meanwhile, for most of us, it is a big effort to keep weight off, especially when you are over 50. It's kind of annoying when people are rhapsodising about how easy it is when it is hard work for many of us. I am not obese and do not qualify for these drugs and so I have to try to maintain control over food and exercise. Meanwhile, I have friends who were not obese in the first place but managed to get a prescription and talk about how easy it is and that they feel like they are 'cheating' since they have not changed the sort of food they eat and do no exercise. I absolutely get that this is not the case for everyone. But maybe you understand that it can get grating.

I see. So it's not the naturally thin people being jealous of people who are obese and qualify for these meds, it's the people who are 10-15 lbs overweight (and probably actually look just fine) who want to be stick thin jealous that someone else can get the medicine but they can't. Do you want these meds, PP? Just stop exercising and eat until you weight 200lbs. Then you'll get them. Pathetic that you're jealous of someone who is obese.

Yes. That is the point. It is a miracle drug for a lot of people. That is a good thing.

it's a good thing that they didnt develop self control and healthy eating habits?

You didn't develop it, smug old hag, you just naturally have it, and many of us don't. Kind of like how we naturally have empathy and kindness. And you don't.
