| We're all kinda suckers in pay-to-play soccer, especially if we have wrong expectations |
So true. Families so often forget that we're the consumers PAYING to be at a club, and it's always twisted as if it's something other than that. |
| You guys do know that MLSN pays trolls to bash ECNL, right? It may even be effective if parents start to believe the trolls. Kudos to MLSN for the guerilla marketing. |
No one needs to be paid to bash ECNL, they're a sinking ship and everyone can see that. |
People are getting paid to tell these truth about ECNL? Where do I sign up? |
Hahahaha As a ECNL dad even I find this ridiculous |
I have noticed this as well. I have all girls, 2 in college who played since the age of 5, and only my youngest who is 13 has played with an Hispanic girl. There just seems to be zero interest in girls sports in that community, and I live in MoCo which has a very large Hispanic population. Kinda sad for those girls, probably a lot of untapped talent in that population. |
Don't think you know it so I'll tell you but this is some ignorant ish. Interest is there, opportunities are non-exsistent, and because Latinos live and breath the game, there is a whole lot of sexism built in too about who gets to play what. Fortunately Colombia is showing that you just need to give the girls a chance to play and the country will follow. Hopefully their team can be the model for other latin american countries. Youth girls soccer landscape in the US will remain the same as long as its pay to play though. |
Who claimed everyone is racist? The OP (one who pointed out ECNL is less diverse) pointed out it could be due to the expense. Just look at the Fairfax County demographics alone. 47.7% are White alone, 17.7% are Hispanic, 20.8% are Asian, 11.1% are African-American, and 4.2% identify as mixed-race. If we went with a round number, let's say 15 per team (because U-littles are about 10-12 players, while U13s and up are anywhere from 15-22 players), a diverse team reflecting the actual demographics would look like (per team) 7 White kids, 3 Asian kids, 1-2 African-American kids, and 1 mixed-race kid (per every two teams). Do you know of any ECNL-affiliated team in the Fairfax County area that reflect this type of diversity? I've actually seen two to three ethnic minorities per ECNL/ECRL team in this area. Yes there may be exceptions, but largely, the ECNL/ECRL teams are not diverse. This is not calling anyone or any organization racist. It's just a reality that the high cost of participation in ECNL makes it less diverse. |
| ECNL or MLSN, doesn't really matter. Even D2 college rosters are getting filled with 24 year old German sophomores. |
Can you blame the coaches? DO I get a 20 year old German kid who has played football for years at a high level vs. getting a kid who may or may not like to play the game but the parents are obsessed with the patches and tournaments their kid played in. |
A couple on our teams oldest son plays D1 on a big college team. Both parents have stated that the foreign players aren't very good. They're just usually older. The son played MLSN both club and Academy and practiced with a pro MLS team. |
Of course you are, bot. |
| Is the mid Atlantic division defined for the fall? Who replaced NVA? |
