Girls side has a growing number of Black and Asian girls. The reality is that the Latino community is not there yet when it comes to girls and soccer.

It's not just an economic issue. It's also cultural. Just need to look at the participation levels across different high schools. In high schools with large Hispanic populations, the boys teams have high participation but the girls teams have low participation. High schools with large Asian populations also have lower soccer participation. Some sports are more popular in certain communities. Not a lot of lacrosse being played in asia. And sports in general are more encouraged in some than others that might prefer to spend their resources on education rather than sports.

The majority of teams in ECNL are not diverse. This is not to call ECNL a racist organization. It’s just a reality that youth soccer in America is very expensive so the ethnic make up is less diverse.

Yeah a few teams may have more diversity, and maybe some teams have a minority or two on the team. But that’s not the norm.

Look at who these clubs promote on social and who are getting scholarships to top universities. I don't want to signal out specific girls, but you'll see great diversity at MFA/PDA/PF (yes PF!)/Delco/Bethesda

My DS went to the tryouts for a local club that is moving up to ECNL-RL in the fall. This club in his agree group currently plays in EDP 4. At the end of the session the coach quoted costs for the season of $10k with traveling to multiple flyaway showcases. For, once again, what is currently a mid-pack EDP 4 team. I nearly LOL'd at the ridiculousness of it all.

My DS had no intention of joining as he's at a higher level club. He just wanted to see and practice with some old club friends.

Yeah the travel at lower levels is getting absurd. I know teams start to fall apart at mid-high school ages, but there has to be a better solution than a bunch of watered down leagues.

yet some of the best players I've seen are latinas with family support. Definitely some clubs who embrace this.
