Are VA publics really better than Maryland's?

How is VCU better than Towson? IMO, they are not different.

That’s because you are clueless. VCU is a national university while Towson is a regional university. VCU has a far wider range of programs including a medical school and one of the top ranked fine arts programs in the country. It is a far more comprehensive and diverse university. Just because admissions may not be tougher doesn’t mean “they are not different.” They’re very different.

Richmond, VA also more appealing and interesting than Towson, MD.

Have you been to VCU? Yes it's in a city but there's nothing appealing about it. I go there often and it's not in a safe part of town. I would not want my daughter going to that school.

I did not know that. DC from MD was thinking about VCU, but now I think we need to rethink that.

You’re kidding, right?!! You’re “rethinking“ VCU because of some anonymous idiot on the Internet?

Seriously, ignore that poster. My friend's daughter goes to VCU and absolutely loves it. You should be street smart in any city.

+1 Ignore suburban stooges.

You only need to drive around the VCU campus to know that it's a sketchy area.

I've been to that area many, many, many times and I'm used to living in the city. That part near the convention center and the area around it is very sketchy. Lots of homeless people. I don't recommend a college girl walking around that area by herself at night.

Yet tens of thousands of college girls somehow manage to do it every single day

Tens of thousands??

Yes and its student body consists of about 12 students and it’s in the middle of nowhere and boring as hell. It’s also definitely on the decline.

Don't be a nerd.

The PP is not being a nerd. Rather the opposite. They are saying "who cares if the scores at SMCM are higher than the VA schools.. it's on the decline". A nerd would care about the scores.

Yes. VCU has 29,000 students. And the majority are women. So that’s tens of thousands of female students surviving VCU every single day.

If va tech and uva were one school it could be in the Big Ten like UMD.

Many many people do. Educated ones too; and most likely more educated than you.

+100 I would never live in VA.

Virginia is a lot like Kentucky.

To be fair, Kentucky used to be part of Virginia.

The Big Ten UMD, Hopkins, Georgetown Prep to Georgetown, Annapolis higher ed community all within 15 mile radius is far better than the Va side of the river
. MD has always leaned more private and country club ish. Va is great for the less expensive publics

There aren't more than 20K female students so no, it's not tens of thousands.

+1 between the two, I’d rather send my kids to UMBC

That is your choice. But it doesn't change the fact that Vtech is a significantly better ranked school. We are talking 100 points different in rankings.

+1
Not to mention… Baltimore? No thanks.
