So whose brain child was this do you think?
I refuse to think is was Trump. He knows no history. And why WW1? |
I figured. Your statement came from someone who is out of the work force or doesn’t need to work/ has an hobby job and that is why I asked. My husband lost his leg and the patella on his other leg when a tractor on his family farm overturned on him. He doesn’t get the pension you do, but still lost limbs. Farm accidents are very common and many people lose limbs and lives because of the huge equipment involved. Your handicap came during your service, so you have access to a pension and can make fun of people who need to work and would like holidays to thank you for your service and to take a little time to relax. Phantom pain is no joke. Best of luck to you, even though I think you are being a jerk. |
I will add that I like Veterans Day because our kids’ school has assemblies and programs where vet and current service members come in to give presentations. I think it helps the kids get excited about military service and see how important it is to serve. I see farming as one way to serve, and it has more fatal and non fatal accidents than the military does.
I am not sure you would be wanted though as you seem to like to talk about “stacks of guys” you killed and that doesn’t really seem like a good lesson for the young people. |
Keep Veteran's Day. Acknowledge that it was initially 'Armistice Day." That is why red poppies were worn that day when I was a child. But, Veteran's Day was a big day in my hometown.
Red poppies are still worn in England on November 11. |

Sure you have-wink wink |
It's 100% Trump. He wants to turn serious observances into nationalistic celebrations of power, which he craves. It's part of his plan to turn the military into a domestic-oriented organization that serves him personally. |
Trump's Press Secretary Leavitt overruled the manbaby.
His own staff don't take him seriously. They treat him like a toddler. https://www.thedailybeast.com/white-house-backtracks-on-trumps-big-idea-to-rename-veterans-day/ |
Hope she gave him a cookie |
“Ok grandpa, time for your nap” |
Yep, you took the words right out of Trump's mouth. Why isn't he renaming it this? He seems to just be doing whatever the F he wants, so maybe he should just rename it to what he really thinks of veterans. What a disgusting sh**show. |
Female veteran here. Military wives are incredible and should be honored. However, unless you've served in uniform, your perspective is going to be less informed than someone who actually served. You serve an important role. But if I showed up at my doctor's office and his wife was there instead, that wouldn't be the same thing to me. I'd want the actual doctor, not his wife. |
Not one military spouse here has pretended to have information that would be considered professional expertise. They are not pretending to be something they’re not. They simply do not live in a vacuum. If you moved to a new city in a new country and stayed for 20 years, you would know a lot of things about that city and its culture than someone else who stayed in your hometown. The misogynistic trolls just want you to believe women who live on post for decades, have every aspect of their lives filled with procedures, protocols, and rules who attend “voluntary” training, have responsibilities during their spouses’ command, who can literally end their spouse’s career by accidentally breaking rules, who have to do everything through military offices can’t possibly know anything about the ethics or professionalism of members of the service. Being a military spouse is NOTHING like being the spouse of a civilian doctor. Your support is kind, but you obviously don’t understand how different their lives are or how many misogynistic trolls like to make fun of them with insults. There’s a whole meme genre for it and it’s disgusting. |
Huh? It’s a federal (read: Club Fed), not national holiday. Most people do not have off of work or school. Didn’t previous Presidents “mess with” it, and Columbus Day, Presidents day, and the new Juneteenth day (one week before July 4th), etc. And all that horse$hite renaming stuff. |
Sorry, is this about having the day of remembrance status or having another paid day off work?
Who is proposing what? |
