Trump proposes eliminating Veterans Day

Memorial Day is the day that matters to me. The men and women who *didn’t* come home. Their day is what matters. I’m fine with my Purple Heart tags and 10% off at Home Depot. That’s enough recognition for me.

The people who suffered and survived matter to me, not only the people who died.

And you can think about us anytime you want. That’s kind of you.

But you don’t need a paid holiday to do it.

How do you make money? You sound miserable.

How do I make money? Odd question, but I’ll humor you:

You pay me! I medically retired as a E-8 from combat related injuries, specifically hearing loss from gunfire/explosions/helo engines, and my left patella, which is probably still in the rocks somewhere in Pantarkush, courtesy of a taliban DShK. Don’t feel sad for me though. One day I’ll have to get an ocular implant (you’ll buy me that, too!) and my titanium knee cap works just fine and only aches on really cold days. And I killed stacks of guys during my tours before I finally got hit bad enough to get separated. So I have a comfortable-enough pension, with SRD payments on top of it, and I have a double-dip career that I really enjoy. It’s not as exciting as riding on Bradleys or Chinooks and shooting BG’s, but I still like having something to do during the week. Plus I really like working with young people. Gen A is really going to turn this country around - they are sick of your BS.

Thank you for your service and caring enough about the next generation to be a positive part of their lives. A lot more than can be said for most of us on this thread. Myself included.

Don't worry. Your retirement is going away. Gotta pay for Elon's tax cuts.

Now imagine Biden trying to do this instead of Trump. You still cool with it?

This is all so unbelievably ridiculous.

It really is.

Not a surprising response from an enlisted service member.

Holidays don’t mean much to me and when DH was active duty, he almost always had to work on Veterans Day, so it’s hard for me to feel much loss. But the fact that this draft-dodging, criminal, conman, traitor, POS Manchurian candidate and human ICBM is doing it bothers me tremendously. F him.
Anonymous
He can call it Losers and Suckers Day.
Anonymous
He wants to call it Victory Day. It wasn't. There was no surrender, there was an armistice. And we know what that led to. Too bad he paid someone to take his history exams at that academy.
Anonymous
Doesn't he have more important things to do?

MAGA veteran is happy to be screwed by Trump. When Trump takes his pension and ocular implant, he will thank him.

WWI absolutely had an armistice. It was originally called Armistice Day. It occurred on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918. The holiday was later expanded to include veterans of other wars.

I turned down two separate OCS appointments, thanks. Once as an E5 after my first OEF deployment and again as an E6 after a tour as an instructor at NTC Ft Irwin.

Why wouldn’t I want to be an O-grade? Because too many of them sound just like you.

Awwww, you haz a sadz

I’ve earned every one of your dollars you’ll be paying me the rest of my life! And all I had to do was kill some guys, and get blown up a few times, and shot. You could’ve been there next to me. No one was stopping you from joining and fighting for your country. But you didn’t. So you get to pay me the rest of my life for the stuff you wouldn’t do yourself. I think that’s a fair trade.
