Memorial Day is the day that matters to me. The men and women who *didn’t* come home. Their day is what matters. I’m fine with my Purple Heart tags and 10% off at Home Depot. That’s enough recognition for me.

The people who suffered and survived matter to me, not only the people who died.

And you can think about us anytime you want. That’s kind of you.

But you don’t need a paid holiday to do it.

How do you make money? You sound miserable.

How do I make money? Odd question, but I’ll humor you:

You pay me! I medically retired as a E-8 from combat related injuries, specifically hearing loss from gunfire/explosions/helo engines, and my left patella, which is probably still in the rocks somewhere in Pantarkush, courtesy of a taliban DShK. Don’t feel sad for me though. One day I’ll have to get an ocular implant (you’ll buy me that, too!) and my titanium knee cap works just fine and only aches on really cold days. And I killed stacks of guys during my tours before I finally got hit bad enough to get separated. So I have a comfortable-enough pension, with SRD payments on top of it, and I have a double-dip career that I really enjoy. It’s not as exciting as riding on Bradleys or Chinooks and shooting BG’s, but I still like having something to do during the week. Plus I really like working with young people. Gen A is really going to turn this country around - they are sick of your BS.

Thank you for your service and caring enough about the next generation to be a positive part of their lives. A lot more than can be said for most of us on this thread. Myself included.

I humbly accept your thanks. And the truth is, I had a great career doing it. I’d still be in now if they’d have let me stay.

Less days off at the factories. Maybe Trump will do away with weekends?

“Socialism for me but nothing for you! HaHa!”

Screw you.

Awwww, you haz a sadz

I’ve earned every one of your dollars you’ll be paying me the rest of my life! And all I had to do was kill some guys, and get blown up a few times, and shot. You could’ve been there next to me. No one was stopping you from joining and fighting for your country. But you didn’t. So you get to pay me the rest of my life for the stuff you wouldn’t do yourself. I think that’s a fair trade.

And they wonder why the left is called the party of hate. So many cowards online these days, pissed at their station in life, righteous and scared how they are going to weather this terrible demon the country voted in to office. They’re actually a loud, minority, in this country concentrated in places like the DC bubble. Having traveled extensively around the country since the election and comparing it to the mentality, manners, community and pride for country they really are the losers. I go back to my previous comment about thanking you for working with youth. You have every reason to be angry and bitter and, yet, it sounds like you’ve found something you enjoy and do for others. I thought we learned our lesson after the treatment our soldiers received coming home from Vietnam- but I guess some haven’t learned the lesson.

You are nuts. This is why it's so stupid to argue with MAGA. Somehow they try to turn supporting all Veterans into being against the military. It's not worth anyone's breadth. They are a lost cause.

Veterans Day first of all is not a paid holiday for many. Mostly for the federal government which includes the military. At our school some of the Veterans would come in and tell the kids a story about their time in the military and there was a huge wall of who in the community had served. The cemeteries have memorials for all who served and died even if not during a war. There is no reason to change this holiday and how ridiculous that Trump doesn't even know that we didn't win the war, it was just a truce.

Hey buddy. I don't think you are following the news. Your benefits are getting cut for billionaires tax cuts. So no, we are not paying you anything.

Well, this has been pretty eye opening for me. If vets don't care about themselves, I sure as hell don't have to.

This same article includes a quote from the press secretary denying this claim. Why are you posting misinformation? They are talking about adding WWI and II remembrances to the day.

+1

Memorial Day took on new meaning after visiting my friend’s graves after returning from deployment. The pain in the eyes and faces of their children is unbearable.

Taking my friend’s gear to his house after he was KIA and watching his dog smell his owner on the gear, and reacting excitedly because he thought his owner was home…when in reality, his owner was never coming home.

Democrats, keep crying for illegals and attacking Trump for everything. You had better cook up some new ways to rig and steal presidential elections, because your asses ain’t ever winning legit again.

Fugg off. How about provide decent medical and mental health services for Vets, and reform the VA?

You think a single day is “caring.”

Dcum calls military members losers, says their precious children will never join the military, etc.

Bunch of hypocrites.

Boy, do I have news for you about the Trump admin and VA care.

Guess who advocated for for VA benefits? That's right, democrats.

Also, it was Trump that called you "suckers and losers." And based on your support of him despite everything he is doing, he is right.
