Well I live in Pittsburgh the land where 90% of the population hasn’t figured out that TSA precheck exists. I’m bracing for the hilarity of the local news reporting on May 7 when the majority of people trying to fly out can’t get on their plane. |
There was no paperwork for you to "fill out" because you already had all the correct forms of documentation you needed. The people complaining about having trouble with the "paperwork" aspects of Read ID (or of proving citizenship to the specifications of the SAVE Act in order to vote) are lacking key documents of evidence. That's the "paperwork" they need to get, and in order to get the paperwork as evidence, they have to often jump through multiple hoops. SO your situation was easy peasy, but some people's situations are not easy peasy. |
And again, I am not "Crying crocodile tears" about this.
I don't think Real ID or the SAVE Act requirements solve a problem they purport to solve because I don't believe large numbers of non-citizen immigrants are trying to vote. But the id system across various states has definitely been piecemeal, and lacking rigor in some places. I don't have a problem with tightening things up across the board. And the time has come for everyone to have a form of unified, national ID. I don't even think we should let military ID serve for this. EVERYONE should have a national id (passport) that shows US citizenship + the right to vote (if over age 18). It should include place of birth, date of birth, and your parents' names and THEIR places of birth and dates of birth. And everyone's names on these documents should be their full name as listed on their birth certificate. One thing this national id does NOT need to have, though, is your gender, race, or even eye and hair color. I think that's ridiculous. We treat male and female citizens the same according to the law. We have no different rules for different races. People change their hair and eye color all the time. These are not needed for identification purposes. I'm not saying add a third marker for Gender X. Just eliminate all reference to gender. There's no need for it for identification. The photo is your identification. |
REAL ID was before Trump just sayin. |
Oh my comment wasn’t meant as political. Just commenting on how uninformed the population is here. Dems and MAGAs both won’t realize they can’t fly. |
DP, sounds totally wrong |
People change their visual appearance all the time. |
Well, true. And I guess if you alter your appearance significantly so you no longer match your passport photo, you need to update that? Ultimately, I suppose your passport will need to be linked to something else, like fingerprint. But my point is, there is no need for a passport to state male or female. |
Like my MAGA friends from childhood who have been divorced and married multiple times, sometimes eloping, and they don't have *any* of the official documents they need to prove who they say they are, besides a driver's license. And they are white, so sometimes they drive around on an expired driver's license for years. |
True - the irony is that many conservatives opposed Real ID vehemently. So much so that the requirement to use it for flying/entrance to federal government buildings kept getting delayed and delayed. But now, with Trump supporting Real ID, and with MAGA saying we need the SAVE act for voter ID that shows citizenship status, Republicans have to embrace Real ID. Except aren't they going to be annoyed when it turns out (after the SAVE act passes) you can't use Real ID alone to register to vote? Or military ID alone? You will still need to bring your birth certificate (or military record of where you were born)? |
I just spoke with my sister, who was married in NYS in 1987. She can't find her certified copy of her marriage license (hasn't needed it for ages), and ordered a copy 12 weeks ago; it still hasn't arrived. |
Please, they’ve seen their share of all natural beautiful Latinas. Kristi has fake hair, fake boobs, plastic surgery face and she took a gun and shot down a happy hyper puppy who was just being a puppy. She’s got a face only a maga would like. |
13:43 is obsessed with the woman. |
They told us about this twenty years ago. |
What are you talking about? She got her New York State Real ID years ago - when she was supposed to. She thought that was enough. But as I am positive you understand, Real ID in most states doesn't prove you are a citizen because it doesn't state that you were born in the US nor does it say you are a citizen. So how can she prove she is a citizen? (She doesn't have a passport). She needs to show her birth certificate. Great. She has that. OK, stay with me here. Her NYS driver's license (her REAL ID) says MARY JANE DOE. Her birth certificate says MARY JANE SMITH. The birth certificate is proof (MARY JANE SMITH) is a US native born citizen. But how to link her birth certificate to her REAL ID? Her REAL ID has a different name on it. When she goes to register to vote, if the SAVE act passes, she will have to hand over her NYS Real ID with one name and her birth certificate with a different name. And (are you still with me sweetie?) they are going to say "How do I know the birth certificate belongs to you? Only the first two names are the same.": She will say, "Here's my husband, Billy Bob Smith. I took his name when we got married." Then they will ask her to please prove that she married Billy Bob Smith. Get it? She GOT her real id when she was supposed to. She has been registered to vote for FOREVER under her married name. But NOW, if the SAVE Act passes, she will need to go back and get her marriage license again to prove she is a citizen. Up till now, there's been no reason to think she needed to do so. She had her Real Id. She had her Social Security card. She's been working legally since the 1980s as a citizen. But to prove she is a citizen she now needs her marriage license. And it is taking a long time to get it. Do you understand now? This is EXTRA. Beyond just getting Real Id. |
