Are people getting meaner?

Also this guy is using his kid as a prop and doesn't seem to concerned for her safety, he unbuckles her from her stroller, and holds her up in the woman's face and asks her if she feels ashamed.

The lady might be a loon, but the guy is a really bad father and definitely a total loon. If you ask me.

Pew research has established that as a fact.

I had a 20 year old guy aggressively follow me into a parking lot and block me in to yell at me because he didn't like that I got in front of him in the right turn lane into the shopping center. Guarantee he is heading for jail.

After the first Trump election I personally witnessed at least 4 people lose their crap on people for, parking too close to the stripe next to a handicap space, there were 4 open and no one was parked in any of them.

One person screaming and yelling and accusing someone parked next to them of denting, not dinging but actually denting their car door, because they just so happened to be parked next to them.

Of going in front of them in the checkout lane, while they disappeared for about 5 minutes to grab something else, even though the line was long and they hadn't actually put anything on the belt yet.

A grown man screaming at a toddler, not his own, for some offense, I still can't figure out that one. The parent of the toddler called the police and the strange man was taken away in handcuffs.

I think it's all the Trumpers who were either emboldened by his crassness, or who felt hoodwinked by his broken promises, and were angry about it.

Why many voted a second time is beyond me. I think it will only get worse, because these same people are in shock and denial right now but sooner or later they are going to move to later stages of grief, anger, etc., we are all in for it.

You mean like this?

I remember the meme's from that. Think she got doxxed and disappeared afterwards.

People are under much larger amounts of stress, combined with COVID brain from those getting infected all the time, and the example of certain political leaders getting away with being uncivil.

It's not a good combination.

I'm a foreigner waiting for my green card, and I am NOT traveling outside the US right now, because I don't need to. But I know plenty of foreigners working in the US who need to travel internationally for work, on diplomatic visas and other types of visas. They're not going to refuse to go just because they're afraid, that's not how it works! So yes, the employee has to go if they can't fulfill a job requirement.

Crazy parents at sports events have always existed.

Me again. To be clear, I was referring to the unfair detentions imposed on British, French, German citizens with legal paperwork or legal visa waivers, and no known history of any terrorist activities. Foreigners are legitimately worried right now when they cross a US border!!! But if you need to do so for work, you do it.

If you're referring to a US person who doesn't wish to travel internationally, then that's ridiculous. They're not going to be harassed abroad just because they're American.

This person was a foreigner with a green card. They were not white, but rather from a country that is on the visa ban list.

I do feel terrible. It was not even necessary for this person to go. I actually covered their work for them, which wasn't a problem at all.

Another thing -- we know a lot of federal workers. I keep running into people who are just don't care and don't feel bad. I was talking with a mom in a group of four other women. Our kids are good friends. She mentioned she and her husband were both caught up in the firings in conversation, wasn't fishing or anything just responding when people asked how you are. She walked off and every other woman in the group began crap talking her! Saying she was fishing for sympathy, talking about how lazy government workers are, this had to be done, etc.! Which is wild, because she really wasn't! She was very factual.

That's not normal, OP. Your neighbors and your social circle are not reacting normally to these crazy times. If you were in some conversative place in middle America, I would not be surprised, but the reactions you are describing are super weird for Fairfax.

1. We have a man in the White House who is mean and doesn’t censor himself. This sets the tone.
2. Many, many people have lost jobs, livelihood, income, peace through no fault of their own.
3. Most of us are deeply concerned and anxious.

These make everyone snappy.

Yup!

I’m stressed, on edge, and at this point need to look out for myself and my family. If someone pisses me off I’m not going to tolerate it.

I volunteer with my church in a food pantry. We provide kind of a drive through food bag of groceries (staples) and families drive through. Sometimes we get lucky and get meat or seasonal fruits and veggies, but again, this is staples, canned food. Vegetables, beans, rice, cereal, powdered milk, etc.

I was telling my two neighbors (different houses in the cul-de-sac) about it when she asked me where I was heading with groceries leaving my house (I collect food and replenish the pantry with others). They were downright mean! Called people who seek charity leeches and lazy bums. They told me I was wasting my time trying to do this because "these illegals are getting kicked out and the rest of them are just trash anyway." I was shocked. I mean, we are, like, pretty well off. This is a neighborhood where homes run over 1.5 million in Fairfax.

Second story, I was at work, and we had a meeting with another colleague who said she was PIPing an employee who refused to fly internationally for a conference. Someone tried to explain why this person might be worried, and she blew it off and said she was being dramatic. I know this employee, worked with her, and she's wonderful! I log in today and see the employee is gone. I felt terrible.

Third story, my husband coaches a sports team and it's small kids. And two men got in a literal fist fight over soccer.

Is there something in the water? What is going on here?

Where have you been?!

Sounds like you live in a Republican enclave of Fairfax. How many Trump flags were there in your neighborhood?

LMFAO. Is this a joke?

FFX is deep solid Blue. There are no R enclaves.

Online people are super mean. Like scary that these are adults who serve as role models for kids. And our current leaders are horrendous.

In person I have not noticed anyone being meaner to me personally. I am not mean and still treat people well. If I see anyone acting dubiously, I avoid.

You cut him off and almost caused a collision just because you couldn’t miss your turn and do a u-turn further down the road. Screw that. Don’t be an ass to other people and then complain that they reflect your own actions back at you.
