Unvaxxed child in Texas just died of the measles

OMG.

My kids are all vaccinated, but good god, get a grip on yourself.

Parents are entitled to make choices about their children's health.

Very sad that a child died from measles.

When I was a child (and I'm very old), everyone got the measles. I remember throwing up a lot, but it was over in a few days, just like any other virus. My kids got viruses like that, and they survived them.

I wonder if measles is different now, more dangerous?
Literally everyone got it back in my day, and no one ever died from it.

And I'm immune for life.

A world where a parent can see their sick child, do nothing to prevent the sickness or treat it adn watch the child die.
Republicans: God's will.

A world where a woman can't get the healthcare she needs or make choices about her body like when to have a baby.
Republicans: DEATH PENALTY to her.

I am making the choice about MY child's health.
It is approximately 12 weeks old and living in my stomach. I am choosing to have it vacate my body.

A 12 week old fetus living in your stomach does not have a chance at life. A fetus needs to be in a uterus for a chance at survival.

Glad you are choosing not to pass on ignorance.

Just because you didn’t know anyone who died from measles doesn’t mean no one ever did. One of every 500 people who get measles dies.

Not always!

And if they do make those choices, they can also face consequences.

can we pass a personhood bill for children? Don't they deserve medical care?

Its about time Liberals start with crazy law suits to get things on the books and fight fire with fire. Republicans always pull this crap. It is time to turn the tables.
personhood for children!!!!

Go read up on subacute sclerosing panencephalitis. Basically, you can get measles if you're unvaxxed and can be asymptomatic. It can hide in your brain for 20+ years, then all of the sudden it attacks your nervous system. There are no cures, and you just die.

This is the risk idiot parents sign their kids up for when they choose not to vax. America is so stupid. I'm so done with it. Let them all die.

I have never heard of SSP before, that is terrible. It used to kill thousands of people every year (in the US) before the vaccine was available.

Well.

That fetus is using your organs, your blood, your nervous system for its entire survival.

No one should be compelled to use their organs for the benefit of anyone else, even if it is to keep them alive. No one. It is your choice whether you share your organs and blood and nervous system. Even if you think you want to do it, and then you change your mind.

However, once that fetus is born, and no longer dependent on your organs, blood and nervous system? At that point, your rights over what happens to that child change. You are required to keep him or her alive, for instance, if at all possible; and if you can't keep it alive you are required to give the child into the care of someone who can take care of him or her.

Worse, I think I heard it's two deaths of innocent children now.

And RFK JR is just unbothered like "oh, that's normal".

F--- these people for lacking humanity.

I'm 58 and yes, kids got the measles. I don't think it was like a stomach bug though. Throwing up is really not a symptom. YOu might be remembering a different disease.

It was a high fever, rash, malaise, and sometimes pneumonia. Kids could get really sick and parents were thrilled when there was finally a vaccine. NOt every child ended up in the hospital of course, but many did.

And NO. Parents are not allowed to make decisions about their children’s health that result in their child dying. You don’t have a right to kill your kid with ignorance.

I'm also in my late fifties, and my great-grandmother who I spend a lot of time with as a child was deaf as a result of the measles, and my father's first cousin suffered permanent brain damage as a 9 year old as a result of the measles.
