What a morbid name. Foreshadowing where many students will be by the time they were supposed to graduate (in the ground, dead and buried).

WTF is wrong with you?

Where do you live that Crozet/Charlottesville inspired this comment? After 4 years in New Haven, Charlottesville has never felt like this to me, even with the recent uptick. It’s among the safest campuses in my DC’s list.

It is actually surprising how much crime there is in Charlottesville for such a small college town. My DDs first year we got constant text alerts from the school. While it wasn’t on campus but around the housing off campus. I just never realized there was gang activity in Charlottesville.

Charlottesville has always had a sketchy element in town. The only time I’ve personally been a victim of a crime was as a student there, despite having lived in several more stereotypically “dangerous” urban areas. People tend to think of it as an idyllic little hamlet where white people drink wine and listen to jam bands on their weekend getaways, but it’s a real city with real working people.

The nice thing about Charlottesville is that it has an economy outside of UVA. So it's not a strictly town or gown place.
And because it has an economic engine, it has all the layers of economic life.
Unfortunately, the many layers of economic life nowadays must feature sociopathic behavior.

It is mostly UVA. Or UVA's hospital.

while these are the largest cville employers, it is not “mostly.” A majority are not employed by UVA. More like 15%.

From UVA: "We employ more than 28,000 people, including approximately 16,000 faculty and staff and 7,000 UVA Health employees." There are also 25,000 students. With a population that large to support, there will always be a baseline of businesses in food, housing, retail, etc. Yes, there are some other employers, like GE, but they pale in comparison. Charlottesville exists because of UVA. There was not any other logical reason (trade routes, navigable river, etc.) for there to be anything there.

They should have read some of the teachings a bit more closely.

GMAFB with the lingo and I am a UVA fan. Seriously.

Sorry, but no. Folks need to be educated regarding University vernacular.

But do they? You aren’t doing anyone any favors.

I am glad all the students are safe. But stop with the lingo lessons.

You are weird. Why not look up the history behind “Grounds” vs. campus. Nothing morbid about it.
