UVA - Shelter in place

No, they haven't

Just got an alert - still sheltering. It has been more than four hours now.

Why isn't this under control yet? The day is almost gone

This is insane how long it has gone on. Hope it ends soon. I’m not overly concerned about my kid. She is safe in her apartment.

Shelter in place lifted - classes resume tomorrow.

I got a text from my junior and checked local news.

They say the suspect has fled the area. The shelter in place order was lifted just after 2 p.m. and he (my kid) was off to find some food.

His assessment was that the police pulled someone over who had a weapon (exposed) and the person had a criminal history. The person fled from a moving car, and the car hit a police vehicle. There were no injuries, but there was some damage.

Not editorializing, but I did pray for a peaceful outcome and I was really happy to hear my child's voice.

There was a mass shooting just last week at a grocery store in Crozet. Lot of guns out there.

A man shot two people. An off-duty FBI agent shot him. Not exactly a mass shooting.

Give it a rest already. You or your kid must have been rejected by UVA (or never had the stats to apply). Why else the hate?? Remember what happened at VTech a number of years ago? Yale? Harvard? Columbia? Chicago? Duke? Berkeley? USC? UT-Austin? UNC-Chapel Hill? And countess other campuses. All tragedies, of course.

My goodness. Talk about a totally disproportionate response.

I disagree since the PP was simply posting facts that unfortunately all families need to consider.

Sure, but the "you must have been rejected" nonsense? Grow up.

I have never said anything that silly and my kid is a current UVA student.

Where do you live that Crozet/Charlottesville inspired this comment? After 4 years in New Haven, Charlottesville has never felt like this to me, even with the recent uptick. It’s among the safest campuses in my DC’s list.

It is actually surprising how much crime there is in Charlottesville for such a small college town. My DDs first year we got constant text alerts from the school. While it wasn’t on campus but around the housing off campus. I just never realized there was gang activity in Charlottesville.
