Definitely rule out LADA- late onset adult diabetes. There is a blood test for antibodies. Once that's ruled out you can look at diet modifications or metformin. Good luck. |
My neighbor is 110 lbs, no sugar other than fruit, works out daily, walks, swims, hikes, bikes. Pre diabetic moving into diabetic.
Genetic. |
Yes some researchers are also speculating that chronic diseases can become epigenetic via environmental pollution etc. You might also try examining your mindset. Look at the body keeps score, Louise Hey work etc. Diabetes can indicate an ever present longing or sorrow. Work on positive mindset. I had a vegan trainer, super fit, marathon runner, vegan for 30years, no alcohol/animals products/oil etc that had chronic disease from poor mindset imo. Try meditating. Good luck. |
Sorrow makes you die. Happiness makes you thrive and live longer. |
You don't need to fast for A1C. Going longer than 8 - 10 hours without eating can cause "dawn phenomenon " which starts to raise your blood sugar. I get better results fasting for 9 hours. |
I have prediabetes, my Dr said, but she didn't tell me to do anything about it, lose weight, change diet, etc.
But I'm worried about it, so I've been actively trying to lose weight, not eat after 7 p.m, eat smaller portions, and skip dinner at least once a week. I've lost six pounds, which isn't much, but I'll take it! I will go back to see my Dr. in June and get more blood tests. I eat a VERY healthy diet, no gluten, very little carbs, protein with every meal, lean organic meats, organic eggs, lots of water, fruit, salads, vegetables, olive oil, almost no sugar. I exercise regularly, mostly walking, lifting weights, bouncing on trampoline, riding my bike. The only risk factor I see is that I'm overweight. OP, you are a mystery. Can you look more closely at your diet? That's probably the only thing you can change. You may be unlucky and just inherited prediabetes. Do you drink a lot of alcohol? If so, cut back. Good luck to you! It is scary. I feel your pain. |
Take a listen to the podcast with Nicola Guess above. This phenomenon is not uncommon for very athletic women around menopause. Unknown why, but this researcher stresses that it’s not an issue if no there are no other diabetes-related markers like cardiovascular issues. Blood sugar numbers are not themselves a problem if there aren’t any complications from diabetes.
Also, the majority of “prediabetic” people do not get diabetes. They either stay in the prediabetic range or go back to the normal range. |
Oh my god. |
Stress raises cortisol. Higher cortisol = higher blood glucose. Higher blood glucose over time = higher A1C |
Oh please. Diabetes is not caused by mindset! |
It's true. My friend who has a high stress life of her own making started getting pre-diabetes warnings in her 40s. She'd diet and exercise for a year or two, slack off, get pre-D again and repeat the cycle. She's in her 50s now and has diabetes. You need to make an entire LIFESTYLE change. |
Are you taking any other medicines? I have the same a1c and generally eat well, exercise, no family history of diabetes. But I am on tamoxifen, which raises blood sugar. I am hoping my blood sugar will go down when I can finally go off the tamoxifen. |
Genetics. Everyone on my mom’s side of the family got type 2 diabetes in their 50s and 60s. My mom isn’t there yet but has been “pre diabetic” for 20 years. I suddenly started packing on weight in my early 40s and haven’t been tested but I’m guessing I have the genetic curse too. |
You can’t outrun genetics. |
